Offline | How best to spend £12,000? In short my mum wants a new car. A mini to be exact. Willing to spend £12,000 but not sure what best way to spend it. We could get a new Mini cooper for just under £12,000, or the mini one for £10,500 with some extras. Or we could look at used cars with a low mileage and hope for some better extras. Just looking for suggestions as to what you think would be the best option to take and advice from those who have had similar choices to make. Thanks |

Offline | Not really sure what way would be best for you as it is a personal thing, but, make sure you get the Chilli Pack or you will regret the future sale ability in the future. May be worth looking at the mini cherished site or contact your local dealer for nearly new ![]() ![]() |

Offline | I'm not convinced about this Bonnie Although the chilli pack offers pretty good value for money not everyone will be fussed for 16" wheels etc. On a budget of £12k you can't get near a Cooper with CHILLI unless you go for a used one. On MINI Ali's question it's down to personal preference as to whether your mum wants more extras or the name Cooper and a bit more performance. Suggest she drives both ONE & Cooper. You can get a nicely specced ONE for £12k. Oh, and tell here to wave when she gets it ![]() Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | Mini Ali Faced a similar problem when buying a Mini for my wife. Had a maximum price to keep. Mini One with greater number of options or Cooper with less. At the end of the day selected One putting the savings into extra factory fitted options, such as Salt pack, air con. sunroof, alloys, sports suspension and sports seats, where you get the Cooper seat fabric. Plus with the One you get low insurance costs. If ever the extra performance is required - get it chipped. Havn't regreted the choice, even after my daughter got herself a Cooper. ![]() ![]() |

Offline | I would go the new route too. Some of the prices for used MINIs being charged are a bit too close to the new price for comfort. I think one of my sisters got a One with a/c, salt, alloys, spare tyre, sports seats and CD changer for a little over £12k. | MINI2 Irritant | OK you got 12k to spend buy a good used Cooper. something which is 12 months old ie 52 or 03 plate. make sure it has Chili pack, air con & as many other toys aswell. Try and get something with very little mileage. That way you are basically getting a nearly new car, but without taking the depreciation hit. I would say you should be able to get a decent cooper which would have cost £14k approx for about 12k after 12months use! |

Offline | I got a new ONE last December - similar budget to the one you're dealing with. Spec is standard ONE, plus Pepper pack, CD player, manual aircon, sports seats, rear spoiler, chrome mirrors etc. Don't regrat it a bit!! It's in my gallery ![]() |

Offline | After a bit more thought and discussion on it I think we are going to go look around at the used mini's locally. If we can't find a decent one with a lowish mileage that we like the look of then I think we'll probably go with the Mini One and the options we want. |

| MINI2 Irritant | have a look an ebay and also autotrader. Also have a punt on MINI Cherished. Take MINI used prices with a pinch of salt as you can easily knock them down at least £500 on the listed price! you should get a decent Cooper with Chili pack and Air for 12k |
