United-States Price of gas!

The price of gas is starting to get a little out of hand. I can still find it for $1.65 but rumors sya it will sky rocket over this summer. I read a flyer that urged people to boycott certain stations in an attempt to force lower prices. We can't go without gas but if we decided as a consumer to only utalize one or two gas stations and urge others not to use their competitors we might be able to force oil companies to take action and listen to the fact Americans won't stand for European gas prices! I get 30mpg with my Dodge Avenger but I can see this gas thing putting a real hurt on the new car/truck market unless you want to buy the Toyota Prius [that actually only gets 40ish MPG, not the 60 or so they claim!] I say we find one or two stations, say Hess or Sunoco and stay away from the others. If an entire country did something like that it would have to result in the prices getting back to a reasonable level!

For one thing, Gas companies don't have much control over the price increases. OPEC holds all the cards on that one. Second, you should come to Europe or Asia and see the prices. It's practically double than what you're paying.

Sorry, can't agree with you on this one friend. Gas is cheap at $1.65. gas would be cheap at $2.00 a gal. A gal. of gas went over the $1.00 mark in 1979 or 1980 as I recall. I think the price of a lot of things has doubled in the past 25 years but gas isn't one of them [not sure of that just guessing].
As for sales of low MPG car/truck/SUV being hurt by gas prices, I'm not sure that would be a bad thing. Also a large % of gas prices is tax and does not go to the oil co.

Naughtyredmini - I don't know where you are getting petrol for $2.91 a gallon, but I'd like 1 million gallons please

Petrol in the UK is currently at the $7 per gallon mark (mind you that calculation is helped by the weak dollar). Although Naughtyred was right about filling a tank - about 75 bucks is right

I would love to be arguing about it hitting $2 a gallon - mind you most of what we pay is tax .

United-States not really the problem

it is hovering around $2.00 near me (in the tourist area - stupid Disney markup!) other places in town around $1.80

i agree that we do get a deal compared to the rest of the world. but to some of us the rising costs of fuel (and pretty much everything else) make it hard, considering my job hasn't paid a cost of living increase in nearly 4 years! I don't think that gas prices are really the problem, they seem to be in line with inflation. It seems that there is a much bigger problem in the US, the unwillingness of larger comanies to pay workers a decent living wage.

okay - im done ranting now.

In Hong Kong we are about USD 80.00 for a full tank. Which is slightly more than UK . 2.00 a gallon that is sweet....... plus city driving we are only getting 380-450 km = approx 239 - 283 miles .

Think on the bright side someone will always pay more for gas. Got a friend with a ML55 USD 128 full tank gets only 350km = 220 miles

How anyone can moan at $2 per gallon of gas is beyond me

As has been said before, we in the UK pay aound $1.50 per litre or nearly $7 per gallon.

I recommend Americans cut costs in other areas to get ready for higher fuel costs.
Cut out the triple cheese burgers, 40oz drinks, Starbucks coffee, 50in TVs, monster SUVs, etc.
We need to rearrange our priorities alittle....

We have some guys over here from the US and they can't believe how much we have to pay for cost of living comapared to our wages. You guys over the pond seem to have a much better deal.

It was acceptable in the 80's

$7.00 a gl. is a lot! Does anyone know how much of that is tax? No point to make here, just curious.

According to this article, we may all look back on $7 a gallon as some kind of weird fantasy...
