Offline | New member. Dealer paint treatment - yes or no? Hi guys! I'm a newbie in Oz and I've ordered an Indi Blue/Black Cooper S from my dealer here in Brisbane My dealer offers a pre-delivery paint treatment..."you'll never have to wax or polish your car again" At some AU$650 is this sort of treatment a good or bad thing? I've said no on 'lesser' new cars but I thought BMW might have something particularly good. Any opinions? Thanks |

| Whatev. | Hi and welcome Paul, The louse at my dealer that was selling it apparently worked on commission. She was also incredibly pushy and wanted $1000 for paint protection and $500 for window tinting!!!. She kindly offered to throw in the rubber mats and quoted a price of $300 for them if I signed up straight away. Needless to say after having it put on my red barina by a client and having that red barina go milky white within 6 months I had already decided against it. If that wasn't enough to turn me off it, the over the top price did. I bought the mats at delivery and they cost $120 not the $300 she quoted me. Her product could not be that good if she needed to go to such lengths to sell it. Another reason to not have it done is it could hold up the delivery of your vehicle and if you have ordered it the wait will be long enough without adding extra time for paint protection. Cheers ![]() |

Offline | PaulD, This reminds me of the time several years ago when I had a paint treatment called Luster Glaze done on my Honda Civic by an autobody shop, with whom the owner was a buddy of mine. He owned several mint classic cars, and used this treatment on them plus to any of his customers who wanted it. Trusting him, I put it on my car too. Now, there was nothing wrong with this 'treatment', it looked good on the car. You were supposed to put the paint treatment on, and then not have to wax the car for a year. The treatment was 'maintained' by a special car wash solution in between. 3 years later, I dropped by the autobody shop to talk to the owner. "Dump the Luster Glaze", he tells me, "after several years of using it on my cars, I've decided these things don't work the way they should, and I will never use it on my cars again, or sell it to my customers." What did he do? He switched to Meguair's Professional Line of car products - in his opinion, there was no good substitution for a good old fashioned clean, polish and wax job. And that is my opinion today too One thing that may be worth gettin is the 3M Clearbra. There are several threads on MINI2 about it, it does seem to do the job!! |
