Offline | 4x4 mini I visited the Geneva Autoshow this week and spoke to the people of Castagna (responsible for the Mini Wagon remember). Turns out that if you bring your Mini they will build you a Wagon for approx. € 14.000,00 (this includes a nice interior). They are willing to carry out the conversion on used Mini's to. The quality of the work was excellent. Castagna assured me that the extra weight (aprox. 20kg) would not effect the handling. According to Castagna for the price they just break-even but the Wagon wasn't conceived to make a profit; Castagna just wants to break-even and make a name for themselves. Castagna makes it's money by building one off cars for wealthy costumers. For instance the Rosselini based on a Ferrari. The Mini's on show where the two known ones; the red one and the silver one with the wood, but also a very interesting green coloured rugged version with extra body cladding that they just completed a week before the show. A little detail: the cars on show did not have any Mini badges on them. I pointed this out to the designer of Castagna and he replied with a little smile: "we are speaking to BMW about that ...." And now for the big news: according to the designer of the Wagon, they are engineering the rugged version to carry a 4x4 drivetrain and heightend suspension. So keep on checking Castagna! |
