Question Who's seen MINIs on the road in Australia & what were they doing?

Me... I've only seen 2 so far:

- A gorgeous black Cooper with white roof hairing off down a steep side road near Tom Ugly's bridge in Sylvania (southern Sydney) - Think this may have been a dealer demo

- A Silk Green Cooper with a white roof tootling east along the SE Freeway in Melbourne near Chadstone. The driver had something of a 'Mr Bean' driving stance & SG is not my fave colour, but I have to say the car looked damn fine on a grey Melbourne morning in the context of the other flabby ironwork hogging the carriageway

GO MINI!

Cooper S, Jet Black w/ white roof, silver 16" X-Lite wheels, DSC, MFSW, dark tinted windows

...It's here & I love it!

I've seen three. A Silver/black one about 4 weeks ago (as reported in an earlier thread) on the Eastern Freeway, a black /white one in Chapel St about 3 weeks ago, and yellow/black one just yesterady.

I'm not at all convinced about the yellow yet, it looks different in various lighting, and lacks punch. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to check out a yellow/white, that may look better than the yellow /black.

I believe that I should have been behind an 'S' by now - THANKS BMW !!!!

Ha! Saw an IB & White Cooper today, in Balmain. Looked very cool - That IB is a classy colour

On the road, the car looks appealingly squat & wide compared to other small cars

It was drawing heaps more attention, too, than the oh-so-common Boxsters, TTs, etc.

I couldn't help noticing, when the MINI was parked, the (reassuringly!) large amount of brake dust on the 5-spokes... It's been said before, I know, but be ready for a lot of wheel preening if you go for white alloys

Saw a nice yellow Copper at the dealers with the other 17" wheels and clear lens ($735 + fitting)

None out on the roads as of yet, but I am stuck in a office with my job.

I have been given a indicative price for clear light cluster on an S of AUD720 inc fitting & GST... Is your price official?

What did you think of the clear lights on a yellow car - Wasn't it a bit anaemic-looking? I have seen on black car only & like very much

The $ 735 was on the info sheet stuck to the car, so I guess it's official. What was more of a surprise is that had a set.

The Oz dealers now have a full price list for most of the add on's e.g. floor mats, mud flats.

They look as you said sickly (not in the good way). I think that they are more suited to a darker colored car e.g. blacks BRG, etc you know all of the colours you can't get on the S at the moment.

Fellas, I got the call today that I have been dreading since March 3rd.

My dealer rang me to see if I wanted to take a June pre-specced 'S', in EB with black/blue leather, MFSW, 17 S-spokes, etc., etc.

I reluctantly declined. But asked the price - $49,900 or there abouts.

Now I'm somewhere in the top 15-20 at my dealer, and I can only imagine that he's had a large number of knockbacks, or that he's trying hard to get me up the list. I suspect the first.

Hope he hasn't got too many to get rid of before he starts taking orders.

Did I do the right thing? My wife seems to think so.

In my humble opinion, you did the right thing eltel. Don't stress. Be patient and wait for the Cooper S you've always wanted since laying on eyes on it. Life's short, but not THAT short. Plus, without wanting to be too negative, I'm almost certain that you will get a better car by waiting.

BMW will have no trouble at all selling their pre-specced cars to the general populous.

cheers

This bit is a bit alarming eltel. why would pre-specced cars on his lot hold up your order ? What delivery date have you been given for your car ?

(They won't anyway. They will walk out the door i'm sure).

Basil, I've not been asked to complete a build sheet for my 'S' yet. Because I'm "somewhere in the top 15-20 'S' orders" I won't be looking at delivery till Sep/Oct/Nov, therefore build would be (I assume) July/Aug/Sep. So I am still a couple of months from needing to submit a build spec.

This is a busy dealership (you should see their huge underground bunker of BMWs and MINIs) so I think that they will get a good number of MINI deliveries, and therefore my number should come around quicker than I expect.

Keeping one's fingers crossed.

Regards, ElTel

Ok, thanks for that. we are both similar in delivery times. My Spec's will need to be finalised by the end of May for a Sept/Oct delivery.

cheers mate

Ozzie crew

Have any of you heard from you dealers about when the 2003 models of the mini are coming out. Looking at other BMW cars I think the next years model starts production in the Sept. I am just wounding if this will be the same for the MINI.

snoopy, would that mean that 2003 models have new colours, new options, and new prices?

I may wait till I found out a it more. This may turn out to be exciting, waiting another 6 months.

Regards.

No, I'm going to wait until the appointed time at which a build sheet will need to be completed, which is in about a fortnight. Unless of course, things change. Again

I have already indicated that I want a Black car - No indications yet that this will be a problem for June build, August delivery. Unless of course things change. Again

Still hoping to be pleasantly surprised ,however, and find that things go to plan. Unless...

That's what I have been woundering. All these delayed options are available from Sept build cars.

Don't know about the price going up. They won't do that, will they?

Good point basil, I have not heard a thing about the glovebox in a while.

Also rich u might want to check with your dealer. As I was think of getting a delayed USA option and by the look of it the dealer now can't guaranting this option if I get one.
