The drive has gone from the Phat Mini

Hi all

Was driving the old Millie to work the other day and had some bad vibrations from the front wheels, i mean it was shaking me out my seat, first i thought wheels loose wasnt that, then i changed all 4 wheels case there was a buckled one and the fault was still there so i booked the old girl in at BMW (this is where the fun starts)

Took car in on tuesday morning, 2pm the girl in service rang and said the fault was with a buckle wheel and they told me 6 out of the 8 wheels i have are buggered which i thought was strange as one set are for shows only, so i drove all the way there in a right mood thinking christ thats £600 for new wheels and then when i arrived i asked them to put a set of standard wheels on and surprise surprise the fault was still there.

Now they move on to the suspension and they change all shocks and springs and they still have the same fault, so by friday i have had no car and mine is still dead.

Today tuesday they are now fitting 2 new drive shafts to the car lets see if this fixes it (lets hope this is covered by warranty) other wise i will be skint

IMO be careful with the mods that you do to your car as dealers arnt as helpful as mine.

Cheers

Phat

Paul, which Chandler's are you going to?

The one in Worthing is pretty good, they're right near JCW's so I'm guess they get their fair share of mods

Not been to the Brighton one but my bosses dad is supposed to be the owner, let me know how you get on

the MINI has gone...

Scary story but being a Celeb probably helps now with getting this sort of thing fixed
Great looking car by the way - the wheels look fantastic

Drive Shafts

Monsta i don't think the wheels are any heavier that the Alpina wheels that mini fit but i suspect the combination of wheels, low profiles and rock hard suspension was a factor as something has to give and it seems to be the draft shafts

Phat

If this is the case, lets just hope it doesnt happen again! Even so when its out of warranty! Driveshafts are not cheap as you can all imagine (Police are always ripping out the Splines ) Has anyone else has this problem with more or less the same set up as Phat?

At the height of last season I could get through a set a weekend - The change in drive angle associated with lowering means that they are working nearer their limits on a more regular basis - Plus the additional heat involved tends to 'fry' the gators

There about £150-£180 a piece depending on which side - I tend to just rebuild the spares I've got where possible or until they really have given up the ghost
