MINI Memory

I've been searching the forums for stuff I know we discussed a few months ago but I can't find anything.

Who has had their car programmed so that if they hold down their remote control unlock button, all their windows and the sunroof open? I asked my dealer if they would program this for me but they said that because I didn't have a standard MINI radio, they couldn't program my ECU - they fed me some crap about the iBus system.
Surely this has got to be rubbish...? Unless all MINI's electrical devices are daisy-chained off each other (unlikely!), then the only thing preventing my system being programmed is a fault with the ECU (or a prat in the service dept!)

Any thoughts or experiences?
Would BMW be able to shed any light on this?

My dealer tried to tell me this as I also don't have a standard radio. It was when I wanted the delayed lights they said I couldn't but the next time I went the turned the feature on. If you believe my garage/dealers then they have to take something of my car put it on another, programme it and then put it back onto my car.

I tried to have the comfort opening (all windows via remote) turned on but they say it can't be done on any MINI! How stupid as it obviously can, I'm planning to go to a different garage and get them to turn it on.

To sum up though yes you can still have the car memory features even without the standard radio.

Dodger and Dodgeress have comfort opening via the remote, but I believe they have the standard stereo.

If that's any help?

If this is true (that you can have your MINI programmed so that the unlock button on the key fob opens all of the windows), then I'd like it done to mine too. I also want the indicators to flash when opening my car as well as locking it, and the doors to automatically lck as I pull away. Is this possible to do still? Keep us updated if these functions are available.

You can definitely have the following features:

- doors lock at about 12mph
- press unlock once for drivers, twice for all doors
- courtesy lights that stay on for awhile when you switch off the ignition.

I have some of these now as it came with them, and I have the boost MD. I also had them all on my last Cooper with a boost CD.

As for the comfort opening, I was told by several dealer this cannot be done, only on BMWs not MINIs. You can do it by holding up unlock, or holding key to unlock position in door.

If it can be done, I'd like to know so I can have it as well.

Varse's Velvet Beauty Mk11 is no longer, sold back to my dealer.

As Paul has rightly said, we have comfort opening (single cd boost)on our September build Cooper.

We have a printout in pdf format of functions that can be programmed if anyone else is interested

I agree with what Varse has said.

I had the dealers program the follow me home lights. They could not program the alarm to flash on unlocking. Also the opening of windows/sunroof could not be programmed from the remote so they say, or the software that had said.

The dealer showed me the list of options and settings for my car confirming what Varse described. By the way, the dealers will be keen to charge for changing the settings - I had mine done for free when I had some warranty problems.

Cheers

They definitely shouldn't be charging. This is something they are supposed to ask you about before you take delivery, so they can program it at the PDI.

Mine will be going in for a few bits and bobs soon, and I'll get it done then.

They are also going to give me some new number plates with their dealer name on rather than my selling dealer, who I want nothing more to do with, so I don't want to give them any free advertising!

2 minutes work, based on labour charges of £50 per hour, that's £1.67 in labour. If, in that two minutes, we say the customer can down one cup of coffee and a biscuit, it will cost the dealer about 80p (including heating of water, washing cutlery etc).

If the salesman is on about £15 an hour (rough guess), his five minutes work in making the coffee, bringing it to you, taking it back and putting it in the dishwasher would cost the dealer about £1.25. Add this cost onto the 80p for the cup of coffee and biscuit, the dealer would therefore have a total cost of £1.85, meaning he would make a loss of 18 pence.

I say call it quits and that if you promise not to have a cup of coffee while you wait, they don't charge you.

God I'm bored.

Arrgh, Vines of Guildford are charging!!!

Just been into Vines to look into booking my Cooper in to have the handbrake looked at. Nothing major just needs adjusting.

I brought the car from Barons of Farnborough and don't want to do anyway near them again, as most of you know. My closet dealer is now Ascot, but their waiting list for loan cars is about 2-3 weeks and I need a car to get to work. So I thought may as well use Vines.

Booked it in, and asked them to set the features on my key as this hadn't been done by Barons (they didn't ask me, no surprise there then!). To my shock they said this is a chargeable item and always is, about 32 quid.

I tried to argue that maybe on a BMW, as many things can be set, but with the MINI there are hardly any.

They said if Barons were prepared to pay for it, then fine, but otherwise I'd be charged.

So basically unless I take my car back to Barons to have my handbrake sorted, I'll have to pay, how crap is that.

Very annoyed. Anyone else had the same problem?

I was really hoping to get away from this sort of service when I left Barons.

Varse's Velvet Beauty Mk11 is no longer, sold back to my dealer.

Boot Unlock

If you hold down your open button on your remote for 5 seconds, the boot pops open.

Can you get the windows to close with the close button on the remote?
