Offline | Nothing, and possibly everything. I don't think any of the mentioned items will void the entire warrantee, but any of the items could void certain failures. If they can show that it was likely caused by the modification. Lowering will change the angle of the drive shafts. While it is designed to be compressed, under load much further than a few cm, could changing the default angle alter the life span of the u-joints? Spoiler? Other than a bad mount causing leakage, mildew damage, and or rust, I really can't see any problems. Given the number of dealers that want to force after market Alloys on the new MINI, you'd think they'd be a safe bet. But if you don't get the correct offset, you could put extra stress on the front suspension. Going with too large of a tire/rim could rub or collide with suspension and body parts diminishing their life span. A bad ice install could damage the wiring. If they have to pull panels, and you develop a squeak, it's no longer MINI's fault. Whose fault is it if someone's base rattles things loose? |

| MINI2 Master | Alloys & ICE shouldnt effect the warranty in any way, only the items you replace woiuld void the warranty for that part, ie a standard exhaust for an aftermarket jobbie ![]() S for Smiffy "Kids in the front seat cause accidents, accidents in the backseat cause kids!" |

| MINI2 Newbie | Re: which of these will invalidate the warranty?? There was a LONG debate about this over on the Club3G (Mitsu 3rd generation Eclipse) board a while back. The general consensus was this: NONE of the modifications above will void your 'warranty' so to speak, as your warranty is not an all-encompassing item. What it WILL void are the covered repair / replacement costs of any part you have replaced with an aftermarket part. For example, I have replaced my factory air intake and exhaust on my 3G Eclipse. I have not voided my 'warranty', but I have voided the warranty on my factory air intake an exhaust. Should I have a problem related to either one of these, I'm out of luck. Should I have a problem with my suspension (which I have not yet changed), I would be OK. As other folks have probably also mentioned, the dealer may attempt to use your installed after-market parts as an excuse not to honor other (unrelated) warranty claims -- your milage may vary. Hope this helps -- Jeff |
