Crappy tyres or bad ASC+T?

Just nearly had an accident in my '04 MCS... Pulling out onto a roundabout, wet roads, go to put my footdown to get out and power disappears because the stupid traction control has cut in yet again, whilst I'm halfway out.

Is it the rubbish run flat Pirelli tyres or is the traction control too invasive for its own good?

Anybody else think this??

When my DSC kicks in, it is not that invasive IMO. It seems to as aggressive as it needs to be. I have really only seen it in lower speed sharp turns when I try to get on it too hard.

I've found the traction control (ASC+T or as part of DSC) is a bit over excitable at times, I most often have it switched off to be honest with you, to avoid situations like the one you've experienced. To be fair, there's got to be a loss of traction for it to kick in, but so many times I feel the loss of traction would have been no problem, compared to being effectively pulled up by the traction system!

Paul, I agree. I think the traction control makes quite a difference in the twisties and works well, but when pulling out like that, my right foot would have been far better at moderating wheelspin.

Bassline - the tyres play quite an important part in traction on the road!

I guess what I'm also asking is, has anybody changed their runflats to a grippier tyre, such as P-Zero's, and noticed an improvement in the way the ASC+T operates?

i dont have the ASC+T, i munch through tyres liek no ones business.... 3rd set 25000!

when i drive the cars that they lend me i haet the traction thing and have to turn it of, you lose so much power i think... either that or teh cars they lend me just aint broek in at all...

turn it off if you can afford it... saves your tyres.

can you still get spin with it on?

Cooperstan,

What software version is your car's ECU at now?

Since I've had V36 installed, I have noticed a dramatic difference in how my ASC+T kicks in. It now kicks in a lot LESS than before, and when it does, it's less aggressive and power loss is minimal. This has also been reported by other MINI owners who have V36 too.

The DSC/ASC+T is far better now I think. It'll keep revs up at about 4000rpm therefore not killing forward momentum like it used to do

I would put it down to the tyres more. The Pirellis just aren't as good as the Dunlops. I have this problem on my Goodyear shod MCS. The tyres just can't get the power down and keep spinning. The DSC does try it's best to help but the tyres just aren't up to it IMHO
Only happens on damp/mildly wet roads for my Goodyears. It seems their "intermediate" performance is poor. They're fine in the dry and rain.

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime
