OK fellow Mini owners. BMW's Mini is one awesome car. But let's be honest. The Subaru WRX with 227hp and AWD is one hell of a car as well. Would you have been tempted at this blowout price for a brand new 2004 WRX? This would have been my first choice if the Mini was not for sale here in the USA. Anyone else?

Over here in Oz, WRX are a dime a dozen! They are roughly the same price as a MCS, but they are EVERYWHERE !

Prefer a MINI any day !

My son thinks they are cool, but they seem to only come in three colors as far as we can tell; blue, black and yellow. He also questions why even the WRX Sti only has a five speed (keep in mind that he is only 8). MINIs, on the ohter hand, come in all sorts of colors w/ a 6 speed. And although they are all "the same," each MINI is different in its own right. I would even venture to say that no two are alike. He also understands that straight line acceleration isn't everything, and that being different has its own rewards. (NOTE: Grandma commented today "I'm starting to see more of them around here ... have you seen the yellow one that is always on 4th street?" An 80+ year old MINI spotter, that says it all. To tell the truth, a WRX would be just another Japanese car to my mom, and she drives a Lexus!)

Im with ks_cooper on this one. Way too many rexes around. Not enough MINIs.

MINI all the way. Half the reason I chose the MINI was for the MINI community. No other car has such a community around it!

Thats a huge thing too Johnny

You wont get this kind of enthusiasm from the WRX/Mazda3 owners etc.

Club days, events, drive days, track days, lunches etc. Great.

God I need my car now!

Yep WRX are everywhere, and the MCS probably puts better times on the track. STi would be a better comparison in my opinion. But that puts the car at $30k and for $30k, you can mod your MCS to beat the STi fairly easily.

I would go for the WRX, I love rally-bred cars, they are quite un-common in south africa, see maybe 2 to 3 in a week. Only problem with them is, there are almost no 2nd hand market for them, cause, no one wants to buy a used WRX, as they know it's seen lots of track days and it's almost impossible to find a stock one 2nd hand. If you buy a new one, and two years down the line you want to sell/trade it in it keeps it's value pretty good againts another scoob, but forget about trading it in on anything other car make, you loose quite abit.

But if I have too pick, I would rather go for a EVO VII

I nearly bought a WRX STI last summer and thought no, better save and buy a house instead, then i drove my sisters Mini One and had to have one - I now have a electric blue cooper S on the driveway which i dont regret! in fact aside from the occasional essential dealer visits

, like Mcdonalds "I'm loving it!"

Certainly considered one, but as it has been mentioned they are everywhere here. And they are targeted by the police.
They are probably a bit more practical than the MINI, as well as being faster.
Maybe 5-6 years ago when there weren't so many around, but not now.

- they are ugly
- too expensive to insure
- they are ugly
- too common
- they are ugly
- I love MINI's :_

STi would be a better comparison in my opinion. But that puts the car at $30k and for $30k, you can mod your MCS to beat the STi fairly easily. Car is only good as the driver.
