Offline | Can you help me and Abi please? Elms MINI in Bedford have fitted the alloy wheel weights to Abi's new MINI wheels on the outside. They are the old fashioned weights that clip-on the rims. We have ALWAYS previously had the weights on alloy wheels fitted on the inside. Using the newer stick on type weights that don't scuff the alloys (which I have been told the clip on ones can) and can also be removed/moved more easily. We mentioned this to Elms (as I say, I've always been told alloys should have the inside, stick on weights) and they said they always use the exterior clamp on style and it would cost £60 to change them?! Seems a bit of a cheek. So can I ask, where are your MINI's wheel weights? Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

Offline | No need for apologies, I just want to know where peoples weights are! I can always get them changed at a wheel and tyre place quite cheaply if needs be. Anyone else? Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

Offline | OK, that's one of each. Anymore please. If the majority appear to be on the outside (not good if you ask me) then we'll be happy, if most MINI dealers are good enough to use the decent weights on the inside, we might ask to get them swapped. Offline | Mine are on the inside more or less in the center of the wheels width (outside to inside if you know what I mean), clipping them on the edge of alloys means they will fall off as the clips are generally for steel wheels "much thinner edges than alloy wheels" and they get knocked off easier to. Offline | That's 3 dealers to 1 on the inside, and someone who agrees £60 to swap is disgusting. Wheels size matters not, I have had them on the inside of my old mini's with both 10" and 12" wheels. Any more? Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

Offline | The dealer has said they fit all MINI and BMW alloys with the clip-on outside weights, and Abi and I are the first to mention it and want it changed! Any more input please? Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

| Sponsor,Moderator & Racer | Re: Help me out, where are your wheel weights? Paul - Mine as delivered were on the outside and clamp on - I had them changed to stick on since clamp on's have a tendency to come of when you clip the chicane tyres making it impossible to drive - I wasn't charged and £60 is extortionate local tyre place will rebalance all four from £10 However - weights sometimes NEED to be on inside and outside - the whole balancing act is to get consistency across the whole tyre and if the tyre is unbalanced on the outside you will HAVE to have weights on the outside - |

Offline | I agree, tape weights, inside on alloy wheels. Most alloy wheels have enough offset so the weights can be placed inside. 60 Pounds to rebalance four wheels? Sounds high to me. An obvious question is why aren't the wheels balanced at the factory prior to installation on the car? It seems strange to make the dealer pull the wheels from a brand new car and balance them prior to customer delivery, doesn't it? Unless this is part of the PDI or something. |

Offline | I agree mr.bill. The offsett is important, some wheels require weights inside AND outside. You won't find wheel weights on the outside of the S-spokes Paul. 60 quid for wheel weights is ridiculous. My Forester has them on the outside. And yes they do mark the rim when they are removed. (sorry not really a MINI) ![]() |

Offline | Mine are on the outside too - 8spoke alloys. I'd not thought about it until nok, but yes - the majority of alloys I've seen have the tape weights on the inside. Might bring this to my dealer's attention at my next visit! Indie Blue/White Cooper ordered - Expecting Late March... hang on - make that mid March. No, wait - it's here!!!!!!!!!!
