[Doctor Wha?]

Greetings all,

Went shopping last night, and swung into the local hobby store to see if they had any new Mini stuff. For a while, it looked like the biggest find would be a Johnny Lightning Cooper S in Indi Blue. Better than nothing, we figured, and started to head out.

But just for a lark, we decided to take a stroll through the RC Car department. Good thing we did, too, because much to my amazement, there we found what had been (for me anyway) the Grail of RC cars... An RC MINI Cooper in Indi Blue!!! I'd been toying with the notion of the "official" Red RC car we've all seen in the accessories catalogs for a while now, but really wanted one in "my" color. The Lady of The House just laughed and shook her head as I giggled like a kid at the sight of it. I kept right on giggling as I snatched it off the shelf, and made for the checkout counter.

Once we got home, it was playtime! It's the product of a company called "Dickie," but not being an RC enthusiast, I had no idea what sort of reputation they had. But the attention to detail of the model itself was quite good, we thought. Running or not, it was good to have just for that. Out of the box, and quickly assembled though, it ran just fine all over the living & dining room floors.

Having passed its "test drive," it was time to do what anyone would to their new Mini: Customize it!! The front and rear "tags" (stickers, really) reading "DICKIE RC" were summarily dispatched to the bin. A few minutes' experimentation with a Brother P-Touch label maker, and we had a new set that were a fairly good match for real things. New tags affixed, the RC was dubbed "Buzz Jr."

Thats the exact same one I bought from the dealership, only it was red.

Really? Well, interesting!

That thought did occur to me, that the company BMW/MINI contracted to make the "official" version might have been allowed, after a while, to make other versions under its own label.

Still, hey, as long as it's INDI, I'm good to go!

I got the indi blue one like that, but with a Union Jack roof. Runs great!

That's the one!

Although I note the one I found was a package deal, which (for a few extra bucks) included a NiCad rechargeable battery pack, AC recharger, and a 9v battery for the controller. But aside from that little detail, yes, it's the one. See the right side of the box , and you'll see the "extras."

Incidentally, I've already gotten my first little scuff on the hood of it when I ran it into the couch!

Undeterred, it continued on across the way, and ran several laps around the dining room table!
