Ohh.........bugs!

Is it just me or does the MINI act like a magnet to insects. My windshied and bonnet are covered with the sad remains of our little bug friends. You can see them coming down the autobahn, flapping away. Get out of the way, I said. Then SPLAT

Seriously, I've never had so many bugs plastered upon a car. No mercy the MINI says. Are the aerodynamics on the MINI that bad?

I live in a really buggy area and my theory is the only reason I notice them more now is because instead of washing my car once a year as I did with my previous car, I wash the MINI once a week.

I am always being dive bombed by birds though - dunno if it is the "oohhh, shiny object" effect or something else.

It's unavoidable with the nearly vertical windshield. Best defense is use Rain-X on the glass and the guts clean off more easily.

Make sure you get bug guts and bird crap off your paint asap, as it can eat through the clear coat.

scooterboy, you don't find the film left behing with Rain-X to be annoying, especially at night? I use their windshield wiper fluid (orange in the winter, pink rest of the year), works great.

I use a product called GLASS REPELLENT KIT Part # 221-528. I got it from Moss Mini. It really works well and makes bug, tree sap, road grime, and bird dookie come off really easily.

RainX only leaves a film behind if you do not buff it enough. In my experience, "enough" means a total of about 15 minutes of buffing spread out over three different days. It seems you have to look at the glass from just the right angle in just the right light to get it all.

Once you accomplish that, it works quite well for a pretty good length of time. Until you accomplish that, the film can be annoying as all get out.

Not at all. I keep buffing it until I can't see any sign of a film (I've never buffed more than 5 minutes though). Never noticed the film at night either (and I'm often driving home from work at night).

I also use their windshield wiper fluid and the combination of the two is great.

so buffing is key.

I do have to say that by just cleaning my windshield with invisible glass (by stoner's) and b&w newspapers, i can go several storms where the water just runs right off without the use of windshield wipers. With minimum effort too.

Talking You said it, Devo...... :)

..."Stoner" is the best window cleaner that I've ever used. I find it even more effective than "Rain X at repelling rain drops, and the bugs/bird droppings just do not stick to my windshield. And I use Zaino products as well. The Zaino "Gloss Enhancer" is especially good at keeping bugs and dirt from sticking to the front of my car. Happy detailing!

Great picture, I love it

BTW, I don't have too much of a problem with bugs where I am, but I don't drive at night much.

Just wait until the cicada bugs come out in the next few weeks. Those suckers might come right through the windshield!
