Offline | I think the reason that you don't see any current MINI owner trading their cars in for the convertible is because: - if you have a panorama sunroof in your MINI, there's already an 'open air' feeling inherent in your car, plus the security of having a hardtop; - you may live in a region with lots of rain/snow/inclement weather, thus the hardtop version is better suited for your needs; - even people who have MINIs without sunroofs may not care about trading for the convertible, because their priority may be on the performance of the car. The convertible variant will definitely be less powerful on a weight to power ratio, what with the extra weight and lesser aerodynamics. - I think the convertible will attract a new subset of MINI owner to our fold. When you compare the MINI Convertible to other convertibles on the market, the pricing is quite competitive, and it's also a 2+2 seater. Plus the lack of storage space is not so much a disadvantage, as most convertibles have the same problem. So the MINI convertible will attract people who are looking for a well-priced convertible, and not just those who want a MINI in any form or shape. PLUS - the convertible will also have a glass rear window with defroster, plus PDC. That's a big deal to convertible buyers. Heck, the BMW Z8 and Honda S2000 have PLASTIC rear windows, and they cost way more than the MINI convertible!! ![]() |

![]() I can't spell | Yes I will. Test drove the S a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. Wanted to order one at the end of the summer, but with that timing it just makes sense for me to order the convertible (which I have wanted since I got my MC a year ago). Bye-bye MC, hello MCS convertible. ![]() ![]() RIP Boo |

Offline | The number one reason I bought my MCS was the look and without the white hardtop, it looks nothing like the original Mini to me. The Convertible is a nice looking small car, but without the roof line, I'm not impressed. Besides, if I want to go riding with the top down, all I need to do is put the Corvette back together and go cruising. ![]() |

Offline | No. Here are the reasons why: 1) The contrasting hardtop and all around warpping glass design is what gives the current car its hallmark looks and design, once you remove the solid roof, half of the car's good looks go away with it. 2) More expensive to buy and to insure 3) Heavier due to all mandatory reinforcements required in these type of vehicles to prevent cowl shake and body flexing. 4) Performance and handling are affected due to #3 5) You completely lose the practicallity afforded by the hatchback design. No longer you can fit that 35" TV with box included out in the back. 6) Safety and body integrity is compromised 7) Have to deal with all the problems associated with aging canvas tops. In a word too many compromises for my liking. I am sure they are thousands of MINI Cabrio buyers ready to jump in one because there is no substitute for that "Open motoring feeling", but other than that, I see no real reason to trade a good looking and practical hardtop for a cabrio.
