| MINI2 Regular | What's everyone going to put on their liscence plates? I'm thinking either BIG MINI, ANTI SUV, or NO SUV. Any one have any suggestions? Brian If you don't like the way I drive, get off the damn sidewalk! |

Offline | gromit - have you got those plates already? In Minnesota we can't do things like that - if someone buy MINI ME voids anyone else from buying M1NI ME, MIN1 ME, or M1N1 ME - as it can get difficult for high way patrol to tell the difference between these at times. So all number/letters that appear the same void each other. If you haven't gotten the plates, I'd check first too see if you can do that. Cheers Mate |

| Bad Dog, Moderator | Not an issue in New York Ordered them on internet via the NYS DMV web page. Approved immediately. Should arrive in my snailmail box as soon as the inmates get done stamping them. If they don't show up I'll post to that effect, but NYS does not seem to care about substituting #s for letters. It's a big moneymaker for the state and that takes precedence over the convienence of the coppers. For a funny but somewhat off-color list of plates that New York won't approve see: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/blueplate/nydmv1.html Chili Red / Black Roof Cooper "S", delivered Aug 5, 2002. | MINI2 Regular | Yea I wanted to put the fake British plates we have on our old mini, but there is one town a few miles away from us that has real strict police, so we can't do that. We had it on both front and back plates, then they caught us. Then we had it on just the front, and they still caught us. I don't think that the front plate should matter, but in this state it does. Offline | Yo Dudes, across the pond How does it work over there? I've got a pretty ordinary personal plate on my MINI for £250 from our national vehicle licencing authority who flog off old unused numbers. Something really swish, like say MIN 1 would sell for something in excess of £20,000 I reckon. I believe you guys can more or less have what you want for around $30. |

| MINI2 Regular | Well, each state has it's own design( some with multiple designs) and you can either get a regular number, for example AFS 9352 for my state. Or you can pick a phrase, up to seven letters in Ohio, and it can't be offensive. So i could do BIG MINI and if it isn't taken, it's not a problem. Custom plates like that i think are around $70, which is only 30 or 40 more than a normal one. I don't understand why over there, custom plates are so much money! | MINI2 Senior | I'm hoping for WINI, but might settle for WYNNY if that's not available. Currently, my plates say SLUGS, just because I have a peculiar fondness for the sexy little gastropods. Most people just don't understand, but one day, I nearly had an accident (every kind you can imagine) when I discovered that I was driving behind SNAILZ. I desperately fumbled for the camera I keep in my glovebox specifically for photographing odd, customized plates, and the other weird things you see on the road. There we were... SLUGS and SNAILZ; it was so Zen. The best photo I've gotten was of a truck with plates that said ONE NUT. I think that's the clearest example of why you should never let your spouse order customized plates for you. You just never know whom you can really trust. Peace. -wynn Texan. Goofy. Sometimes witty. Offline | Re: Yo Dudes, across the pond J.N., I went on the Massachusetts web site to see what was already taken. Based on that I had a reg plate made up that says GOMINI. Cost $70- annual fee, plus $50- one time fee. There are some restrictions like 6 characters maximum, no spaces (GO MINI would have been nicer), can't begin with a numeral, must be approved (in case it can be even slightly interpreted as offensive) I wonder if your last name was F*CK if you could get it based on free speech and civil rights, etc. ![]() Missing my buddies Dan and Ed but glad I have two angel buddies , And on a quest to Right Secco's Wrongs |

| heterochromic & loving it | Re: Re: Yo Dudes, across the pond The court case has already happened here in Vermont. Someone had their SHTHPNS plate taken away when someone at the DMV figured out what it meant. The DMV won the case, and has since set up much more stringent rules about what you can put on a plate, including the requirement that you explain on the application form what the proposed reg number means. One of the new rules forbids ethnic and religious references on plates, and now there's another court case relating to that provision. The case was brought by a woman of Irish ancestry who was denied when she tried to get IRISH as a plate. Obviously the DMV are right to want to forbid ethnic slurs, but this was meant as a point of ethnic pride. No word yet on the outcome of the case... -Ricardo |
