Offline | Has the Mini-brand been a financial success for BMW?? We all know the mini is a great car but does anone know if its been a financial success for BMW so far? When the next-gen Mini arrives in 2007/08 do you think they will add different variations like a wagon, 5 door hatch, and a sedan to expand the line up? |

Offline | It's a goos success, and yes, the range will expand. If all goes to their (revised) master plan we'll be seeing MINIs (and more versions of them) for a long time to come. It's no VW Bug that's for sure. |

Offline | Considering the fact that, short of going out of state, dealers are demanding $2500-$5000 and are getting it!(like me! ) Even with premium, waiting lists run for 3-5 months. Without it's around 12-16 months(around here). There's no question that MINI has become a huge seller for BMW, they made the right decision to revive the MINI! Plus, the dealerships(around here, again) have an inverntory of about three cars! Low inventory + extrmely high demand = Lotsa profit! ![]() |

Offline | >>>Wagon could be an estate car in the UK, and a Sedan would be a four door version (or maybe 3 ??? with a hatch too ????)<<< The wagon (as in station wagon) definition would fit the 4 door conversion that's being produced in Italy. A sedan normally denotes having a trunk instead of a hatch back design, so I don't think this will happen.....at least I hope it doesn't. -- '03 S B/W |

Offline | 180,000 units per annum from a standing start in 3 years? If they can't make a profit on that they don't deserve to be in business. Bearing in mind they bought the whole Rover Group for about £800 million, then sold Land Rover to Ford for £1800 million they were quids in from early doors. They picked up the MINI brand for next to nothing - what price would it be now? "Do try to keep up Nigel!" |

Offline | I am sure I read it somewhere that BMW does not make a lot out of the MINI, and that it would take some time before the recoup the initial investment blah blah blah ![]() DK :apple: |

Offline | It is on its last leg with the convertible, however, I guess it would soon die due to the MINI Cabrio ![]() Given the choice, I would choose the MINI convertible over the plastic Beetle ![]() DK :apple: |

Offline | I read somewhere that projected sales for MINI in the UK was only 40,000 units and that currently they're selling way in excess of that. As for the bug cabrio, I was loading up with shopping in a parent & child space and a mother driving a new 04 bug cabrio parked in the next space. Now we all know that parent & child spaces are huge and yet she still managed to park about 4 foot from the kerb on her side and about 1 foot from my door. She got out had a look and said, "Sorry it's so curvy I can't tell where it starts and ends". ![]() There is just one moon and one golden sun; And a smile mean friendship to ev'ryone; Through the mountains divide, and the oceans are wide; It's a small world after all. |

| It is Inevitable... | I think that as the gas prices rise so will purchases of the MINI and cars like it. Only thing I see that needs to change for this to become true, is there needs to be a model that runs on regular unleaded. Americans are too selfish to buy a car for its fuel consumption (or lack there of) and pay for the highest priced gas..... as stupid as that sounds I am afraid its true. People wont buy this as a car jsut to commute, hope I didn't sound like that. I think people will start rethinking how much car they actually need, and will buy accordingly. The fun factor of the MINI is obviously what sells it, the fuel economy is a plus. |

Offline | Yes, but how much in British pounds? In reality, it's a difficult question, lots depending on IRR (internal rate of return) and WCC (weighted cost of capital). If you say 'since it's launch', then you're only factoring in marketing and sales in addition to the manufacturing costs. Prior to that they had development and manufacturing tooling, which undoubtedly cost quite a bit. Still, they're making money on each unit, so it's only a matter of time. I'm in finance, and 'How much money have we made?' all depends on who's asking and who's telling. As for dealer markup, that doesn't usually go back to corporate. |

| Boy who made the wolf cry | I think it is safe to say that Min has made BMW a lot more than they were expecting... Most markets are up on predictions, and things seem to be getting bigger!! Premium unleaded is used for mini's becasue they are premium cars!! Todd PROJECT POLARIS - Die Wiedergeburt eines kultautos |

Offline | I was able to find this: "About 36,000 Mini Coopers sold in the USA last year — almost double what the company had projected, says Jack Pitney, vice president at Mini USA. and Sales of 176,000 cars last year were up 22.4% from 2002, and the Mini factory in Oxford, England, is running full tilt. Although BMW doesn't break out the Mini's earnings, Deutsche Bank estimates that the unit produced a pretax profit of $61.5 million last year, on revenues of $3.4 billion. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine...7075_mz054.htm there you go, cheers ![]() Last edited by miniman marshall : May 11th, 2004 at 05:01 AM. |
