Offline | The Saxo IS the 21st Century Nova! Me and my Bro BOTH were saying this the other day! I don't hate VTR/VTS's like I hate Nova's tho! I really do hate Nova's, with a passion as strong as my love for the Mini! Down with NOVA's! (Or No-go as translated in spanish hence they've always called it the Opel Corsa) ![]() |

| Nice TTs......... | Over here, we have the Nova / Corsa, plus the old Corolla Twin Cam, rear-wheel drive coupe, if anyone really remembers them, popular among rally fans for the tail happy handling.....they really are dangerous, clapped out as they are now, all over 10 years old....... ![]() Global Moderator |

| MINI2 Master | Oh no! ![]() I just watched the repeat of 5th Gear and the end credits with all the sad Saxo modders (on next week).... ![]() The shame! Why can't MINI hurry up and get the S out! Do you think that the BMW garage will want a trade in? "Sorry mate, you've got a sad monkey's car, that's worth £2.50, we're not going to sell you our nice, sassy MINI now that we've seen THAT!!" Boohoo! |

| Test thread infiltrator | It's been the general consensus that the saxo is the new nova for some time now (started by the jealous corsa boys because the saxo was better than their cars). Even a few of my mates with modded saxo's have taken to calling theirs Nova's. However, the tackyness of modifications hasn't quite reached Nova levels yet, so there is some hope for it. However, another of my mate's just got a 2l turbo Nova, so I refuse to race it. I absolutely will not be beaten in a race by a Nova :P And he won't go near the twisties for a decent race ![]() Is the Saxo the new Nova? Yes. But in it's defence, there are still some tasteful ones going around, and these are mainly by the people who bought them pre 2000/01, before they started getting cheap second hand... Dom |

| MINI2 Master | There is no hope for it. It will be modded and modded and modded until the next one comes out that they can afford, it'll probably be the Clio 172 next as it comes down in 2nd hand price. There are the modders who crave performance only and good for them. Then there are the others who want to make a decent car look just plain plop!! |

Offline | I think its an American Phrase. An example of a Rice boy is: A Fiesta 1.1 Popular Plus painted a horible bright Pink a hugh Exhaust on the back and a Spoiler that looks more at home on a Formula 1 Car or as a Tee Tray: My favorite example though is someone with a bog standard BMW 318 with Steel Wheels, PLastic Bumpers, who sticks an M3 badge on the back! *Makes my Blood Boil does that* Don't take thy lords name (M3) in vein! ![]() |

Offline | stupid! thanks kjs... I found this on the FAQ on that site. Don't you know that the name "Rice-Boy" is racist? - Does the name suggest Asian stuff? Why yes it does. But the "rice" pat refers to the cars, not to the people. For many years, Harley riders have been calling Japanese sport bikes "Rice-Rockets". No one assumed the rider was Asian then, and no one assumed that the person calling the bike a "rice-rocket" was a racist. Regardless of the race of the drivers, the cars still come from Japan. The ethnic background of Rice-Boys varies widely. The origin of their preferred vehicles (Civic, Integra, Prelude, Eclipse) does not. Again, it is mostly the Asian rice-boys who respond to me that confuse their car with their whole identity, and are unable to separate the car from the driver. Again, it is mostly the Asians rice-boys who don't realize that many rice-boys not Asian. At any rate, this page was definitely not meant to be all politically correct and stuff. I expected it to offend some people, and actually, I kind of wanted it to. This page would be horribly boring if it was all politicaly correct... Offline | PT Cruisers My wife has a black PT Cruiser, and she loves it. She always wanted an antique Packard or other 1940s kind of car, so when she heard about the Cruiser, she was right there: waiting list, online forums, abuse by conniving dealers... same old story. It's actually a very good car: Lots of room, very comfortable seats, relatively peppy engine (2.4 liters) and suspension. Aside from the "retro" thing, it has a lot of imitators, cars with high seating position like an SUV but running gear more like a car. I never thought of a Cruiser as anything like competition for the MINI, but my local dealership includes the Cruiser in its MINI alternatives chart (the one that shows why a MINI beats out all the others). I don't remember all the cars in it, but there weren't that many: Ford Focus SVT, VW Golf, VW Beetle, the Cruiser, maybe one or two others. Someone in marketing must have the idea that if someone is looking for retro, they are looking for any kind of retro. But I think the appeal of a MINI is completely different. I want one because it's the closest I can get to a classic Mini without being retro. Did anybody buy a MINI just because it looks old ? |
