It's actually a very good car: Lots of room, very comfortable seats, relatively peppy engine (2.4 liters) and suspension. Aside from the "retro" thing, it has a lot of imitators, cars with high seating position like an SUV but running gear more like a car.

I never thought of a Cruiser as anything like competition for the MINI, but my local dealership includes the Cruiser in its MINI alternatives chart (the one that shows why a MINI beats out all the others). I don't remember all the cars in it, but there weren't that many: Ford Focus SVT, VW Golf, VW Beetle, the Cruiser, maybe one or two others.

Someone in marketing must have the idea that if someone is looking for retro, they are looking for any kind of retro. But I think the appeal of a MINI is completely different. I want one because it's the closest I can get to a classic Mini without being retro. Did anybody buy a MINI just because it looks old ?

In AutoExpress they did a test with Audi TT, Mini Cooper, PT Cruiser, and the Clio V6. They were going for cars that get looks or summat. Needless to say the Mini Won, and the PT Cruiser came last (no offence) can't remember how other to came.

It was a "Which is the most desirable car" test. My mate has a TT, so we had a giggle over that....I couldn't understand the inclusion of the Clio and PT Cruiser....I wouldn't put them anywhere near the desirability level of a TT or Mini!

Definitely the most handsome Mini Cooper driver in the Southwest (if not the world)!

It was a bit of a stuid test really. I mean the Mini looked great, but the PT Cruiser should of never been in it me thinks. The V6 Clio is a bit quicker than them it should of been tested with the Works S
