Offline | What year does this new pedestrian law go into effect in Europe? What countries are affected? Will the next-gen Mini come out about the same time as this new law? |

Offline | OMG, and I thought us Yanks and some idiotic laws alleviating the individual from personal responsibility. The world is a dangerous place, get over it already. I wonder when the day will cone that I cant but a sharp knife to slice my tomatoes, I mean after all I might cut myself, wait, that wouldn't happen the Band-Aid company would sue for loss of business. I never wore a bike helmet when I was a kid, and last I checked I'm not dead, yet. But I do like the idea of flush mounted windshield wipers. Bad things happen when people do dumb things, it's called evolution, and its not a bad thing *rant over, sorry guys* WARNING-Objects in rear view mirror have a tendency to disappear! 9/20 build '03 MCS IB/W/W, everything but the NAV & Sunroof |

Offline | Just my views but there are several issues. 1. Over here, the use of the lower limbs has not been superceded, nor made nearly impossible. I rely on my own experience and comments by Bill Bryson Therefore, perambulation and cycling are a more frequent occurrence than in some other continents. In consequence, there are more pedestrian/cyclist deaths and injuries than in the USA, proportionately. No doubt some are due to error on the part of the soft-shelled. A number are however due to acts of omission and commission by a driver, against which the walker et al has no defence. Many are a combination of these factors. 2. The net result is that in order to reduce deaths and injury, it is not only the driver and passengers that need to be considered. 3. Up to now the same thought has not been extended by all manufacturers to pedestrians, although there are exceptions. 4. It will still hurt if you are struck by a car, but the chances of death and serious injury will be reduced if designers are required to consider outcomes. 5. Unlike the restricted licensed car drivering cadre, the walking population is made up of the whole age and ability range, therefore the infirm, slow, and addled, and the young and impetuous have to be considered. Some might prefer they are not allowed out, but sorry, that isn't a realistic option 6. Some styling freedom may be lost. They'll overcome that. 7. Anyway, the die is cast. |
