Question Cruise Control

Unless I'm doing something wrong, my cooper won't respond to the accelerator while cruise is active. For me, that poses a safety problem if I need to accelerate out of trouble quickly. I would expect the cruise to be suspended or deactivated with a push of the gas pedal. Anyone else have that problem? This is my first post, by the way!

In my experience with cruise control all cars enabled with it that I have driven allow the control to be switched off when the accelerator pedal is used again. I would have thought this would have been the case with the MINI. I can't remember however when my brother had a 5 series with cruise as a loan car whether this was common with BMW's?

Sorry I can't be of more help!!

Yes, with Beemers when in cruise control mode if you press the accelerator it over-rides cruise and you have to press the resume button for it to kick back in.

My cruise control de-activates every time I touch the gas pedal, and I suspect it de-activates if I change gear too, but need to confirm that one.

Thanks, folks. I'll consult the dealer. Mine's a steptronic auto, but I don't see why that should affect anything.
