I have searched and i dont think there is a thread on this... I was wondering if you could install a security system on the MINI like a Viper, CompuStart system or something. My dealer wasnt sure and they said that they key wouldnt work and what not but I dont think this is true. Has anyone installed a security system other than the MINI one that i dont even think is in Canada yet???

As I understand it, you cannot fit a clever alarm due to the MINI's electronics. If you want a high spec alarm unfortunately you are limited to the MINI system so get it done at the factory or it will cost an arm and a leg (see Bengolf's description of "Arm and a Leg" in off topic and banter) if you have it fitted afterwards.

I have had no problems fitting alarms to the Mini
same with anti car jack/hook & cane systems

Interesting answer Mikey, wondered if you would reply. Company that usually fits alarms to our vehicles said it cant be done because of the MINI Can-Bus system.

I fit the sigma range to Minis - NO problems. You don't go near the can bus system

Do you if the MINI key would still work?? I had heard that when installing security systems you need to put a filed down key under the hood somewhere in order for it to work... so would that mean i would have to get another key??

No issues like that - the alarms I use are triggered by the factory remote fob so you don't need 2 fobs. Just press the factory fob & this activates the alarm (& mirrors if you have my kit ). No hiding keys or anything like that.

Is this alarm something that I could fit? It would be a bit expensive to ship my MINI to the UK to have it installed.

mikey, would I only be able to install your alarm?? Or do you know if I could get another alarm like Viper and have a security place install it?? Would I need to tell them any info or anything if they havent done a MINI before?? Thanks !
