Close call with a burgler...

Happened a minute ago.

I was watching TV / Browsing the Forum
When my mum came up pretty worried saying someone was outside, so I went outside and saw some guy behind the car I ran after him (in my jarmers!) he jumped into a car waiting outside and the driver sped off.
Lucky escape... I think he was going to come in and take the keys to the car/s my dad has a SL500 so I think they could have been after that rather than my Mini ONE.
Its not the fact that something could have been stolen its the fact that my mam could have been hurt.

Anyway's just a warning to always lock your doors / close your gates on a night.

Jeez Rich, glad no-one was hurt. Fcking thieving pikey bstards!! They deserve a fecking good kicking, I've had to do that before when someone was lurking around my TVR (not that they could have stolen it as it was a 1971 that hadn't moved for three years ) he was in the carpark pulling the dust sheets of it, only a lad, mid to late teens. It was about two months after my neighbour had her Golf GTi stolen, so feelings towards anyone around the carpark were abit harsh. Not that I'm really that sorry.

They are a pain aint they!!! We had a Subaru Impreza series Mcrae about 6-7 years ago, and whilst we were in the house they came in and got the keys, and managed to get away with the car. Didnt know anything about it until we heard the car speeding off down the road. You cant have anything nice without some thief trying to get there hands on it!

These days speeding motorists get harsher punishments than car theives.

Get a safety light installed. That way there's nowhere for them to hide.

Our house is like a fortess
We have 2 huge electric gates operated via remote control and 5 motion dection cameras that are uplinked to any TV in the house, the VCR automaticly records and movement outside.
An alarmed system in the house, so when we go to bed any movement from downstairs sets off the alarm.

Unfortunatly it wasent working because the power went down yesterday and I forgot to re-set the system. Sods law I suppose

The thing is you never expect it when you are in the house....

That was lucky.... we had a spate of car keys being grabbed through letterboxes where I live.... I'm very careful now about leaving doors unlocked or keys in easy to reach places...

I doubt they'll be back now as they know your onto them....

Ooooh, I want a setup like that for my home!!!

Rich_IX, do you leave the porch/front lights on all night? I find that works too as part of a deterrent system, we use compact flourescent bulbs in our light fixtures so that the power consumption is minimal. Plus, we have replaced the light switch for those lights with a electronic timer, which has a battery for the internal clock. I set the lights to turn on at dusk, and off at dawn!!

Glad you & your Mum are okay & also glad to hear that they didn't take anything or do any damage. We had a spate of car break in's over the last few months and we had the window broken and the stereo nicked on my Dad's Nissan - (No jokes please )
I hope that when the theiving scumbags manage to save the first payment for a clapped out Ford Fiesta - there will be judgement/punishment sent from above

my brother had his car wrecked by a burglar at the weekend.
He has an old-ish Escort and they bent both the doors back from the top seal to get to the door release. Stole two cigarettes, a can of WD40 and a Led Zeppelin tape.
It has trashed the car - it is now a right off because two doors is worth more than the car itself, but unfortuantly it's not worth his while to claim as he'll lose his no claims and the excess - what a callous way of breaking in? A window would be much easier for us to repair. The car is worthless and he has nothing now

I had a similar incident before Christmas, I happened to look out of the bedroom window to see 2 "Yoofs" in hooded tops trying to get in through the front door and peering through the glass. When I opened the window and challenged them one swaggered off and the other said he was "looking for his mate".

Anyway my Boyfriend follows them in the car and saw them trying to break into other cars. Phoned the Police to be told they were not sending a car as no crime had been committed. That is South Yorkshire Police for you. It was different when I got a Speeding ticket for 79mph on the Motorway last year.

MCS JCW EB/B 210 Bhp lots of extras!
