Japan More are needed, fer sure

I think they're up to 80 now, and there's word that more are on the way, especially to areas of the midwest, west, and pacific NW where dealers are few and far between

(I counted, and there are 8 dealerships serving 15 western states: CO, UT, NV, ID, OR, WA, AZ, MT, WY, ND, SD, KS, NB, OK, and NM)

So unless you're in Texas or CA, the pickings are indeed slim--this IMO is where BMW dropped the ball and underestimated MINI market potential in the urban and suburban West

I do know that Albuquerque is slated for a dealership soon, and they're considering a 2nd MINI dealership in the Denver/Boulder area, due to market demand from adjoining states (like NM). Wait und see I guess... Jimbo

My 100th post. Do I get floor mats?

oh please...if they open a second dealer here in Colorado to serve NM residents, I hope they'll build it here in Colorado Springs, which is closer to that state. (plus I will avoid driving my car 70 miles to get it serviced )

Vince at Schomp told me that 20% of Schomp's business is either Santa Fe or Albuquerque. Saw a stload of Coopers last time I was there. I had heard that Murray BMW here was interested in gaining a Mini franchise, but have heard nothing since. A little competition might be nice, but to what extent I dont know.

Hopefully your Cooper is doing well and you don't have to drive up here often for service. Jimbo

Don't count on that. Also you should consider 70 miles good compared to some who have to drive hundreds of miles to the dealership. I live in Northern California and I drive 82 miles to my dealership.

You're right...many people have to drive several hundred miles to get their cars serviced. 70 miles seems nothing compared to 175 or 250...

No what would be NICE (in an ideal fluffy-cloud world) would be for any BMW dealership to be able to work on Minis, IOW, service their own products. All U need is the interface and a couple Oxford-certified mechanics in every d'ship

I had heard this was a very real possibility, but nothing lately. Perhaps this too obvious for BMW AG to comprehend Jimbo

My closest dealer is about 100 miles away, but I prefer to go to the dealer I purchased from, which is about 225 miles away (anything to get out of Wisconsin and into Chicago! ). And yes, there is a BMW dealer about 1 mile away from my home.

I have asked in the past about this too MINIUSA, and they told me," do tolegalreasons it would not be possible at this time but perhapes in the future it might be possible." What a bunch of crap.

The USA is a Confusing Picture for Munich Suits

It's thier product. it should be serviced as such more dealers in the W outside CA/TX too: Omaha, Albuquerque, Reno, Boise, Rapid City, Jackson, Bismarck, Tucson, Co Sprs, more in the Seattle, Portland, Vegas, Phoenix, Denver/Cheyenne areas could support at least 1 (more) d'ship. Get more d'ships in these areas and the waits would drop dramatically, and us frustrated westerners wouldn't have to look E.

but the flip side: to do this does BMW AG make and import more cars into the NA market, thus driving down resale values? Or do they shift and expand allocations in the W and shave off the E to do so?

19th and 20th century historical views of the western US are that of colonial dependence on the rest of the country, combined with general complacency by the rest of the US toward the West (does it exist?) MINI is the new millenium example: what happens to these western d'ships if customers look to the East? Do Munich executives understand?

Hard 2 figure this company out. Colonialism is alive and well with MINIUSA.
