Remote control options (again)

Many thanks to forum members who have given me the information to pursue this matter.

I visited my dealer today and had the gizmo plugged into the car which gives a print-out of available remote options.

Apparently; these options have been expanded with later cars, so earlier ones may have less options.

Don't know when mine was built; but it was registered on 1st March 2002.

My options print out was as follows:-

1. Auto lock after moving off.
2. Selective central locking
3. Selective CL RC (can't remember what this one is?)
4. Holding RC open button
(a) Luggage comp opening
(b) Comfort opening
5. Follow me home lights (40,90,150 or 240 seconds)
6. Wipers. Speed one changes to 'intermittent' when the car comes to a stop.

I've seen no mention of No 6 in the handbook, but is apparently set to do this by default. Haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Anyone care to comment on this?

I've had 1,4b and 5 (40 seconds) activated.

The remote opening of windows (and sunroof) is great and much more useful than the tailgate release. However; it won't remote close the windows on locking (for safety reasons), but it can be done with the key in the door lock.

My thanks to Adrian the MINI technician (actually; he's not that small) at Lind of Norwich who kept me supplied with tea, whilst this was done F.O.C.

No offence but Safety Reasons isn't true, if thats what they told you thyre talking rubbish. Allthe new 3 series Coupe beemers (used this as an example (as has frameless windows like mini) but I'm SURE all beemers have this) have Comfort Closing ASWELL!

So why isn't it a safety issue with them. Not having a go but if BMW say its safety, then why so there other cars do it? Hmmmm

Just been down to the car park with a mate, he has a ghia X mondeo. His car opens all the windows and sunroof with the remote pressed, and will also close them.

So it would appear that not all manufacturers see it as a safety issue.

- Red/White Cooper, Silver wheels, Climate Control, Chili Pack, heated mirrors, CD Boost, Alarm, Heated seats, Factory Tint Windows. Now gone (but not forgotten)

BMW don't see it as a safety issue, maybe its just the rival faction MINI

I thought all BMW's had pressure sensors on the windows so if any resistance is felt when the window is closed they stop and open up again. incase the kids get their fingers caught.
