Offline | Doctor says, Sell the MCS !! My friendly local doctor has recommended that I sell my car due to continuing lower back pain. "Get a more suitable car with a better seating position, sitting higher up",yeah, yeah, yeah. Because I do a fair bit of country travel and I am in the car a lot (very happy with that) it does put a bit of pressure on the back. The seats in the MCS are pretty ordinary even if you dont have a sore back. Going to see the specialist tomorrow but I'll be damned if I am going to sell my baby.Even if I have traction for a week I can still look forward to driving the car when I am finished.I have just got the car the way I want it so there is no way,no way its going- well I hope not anyway.Getting old now and the bones arent what they used to be. Watch this space. |

| MINI2 Master | you're not the first person that's been told that about their mini..... I was flabbergasted that it didn't have adjustable reach on the steering wheel, I've got long legs and short arms (there's an image!), and sometimes end up with sore shoulder muscles after driving, although it's usually after work so it's probably the tension of work as well. |

Offline | Hi Brick I have had a few back problems, I thought the MINI may have had something to do with it. It wasn't the car it was just all the other crap things I do to my back at work Don't listen to your Dr, go out and find a good physio and you will be back in your MINI in no time Next Dr's will be telling us to sell our MINIs as the rattles are sending us all deaf... you have to yell at swamos after his last dash rattle LOL. cjay. |

Offline | The seats in an MCS may not be the best around however they are nowhere near as bad as some. You should be able to find an adjustment to suit you and the condition. I've had spinal fusion and don't suffer any back problems from sitting in the MINI. On long journeys I use a 'Bolster' which I keep deflated under the seat unless required. You can inflate/deflate the bolster to suit your sitting position and the lumber adjustment in your seat. Remember Victor Kiam . . thought the Remington shaver was so good he bought the company . . . we thought the same about Bolster and now we own it. And this is not a commercial . . . it really does work. ![]() |

Offline | Aww, that's a bit of a bummer mr brick! ![]() On a similar note in January/February when I was tinkering with the idea of buying a used MINI there was a fully loaded MCS for sale in Melbourne with stuff all kms on it going for a song, anyway the guy said in his ad he had to see the car because he needed a shoulder reco or something. That hurts! |

Offline | Another (albeit expensive) option is to consider the JCW seats. A few laps in the driver and passenger seat of the press car around the full Eastern Creek circuit at MINI Drover training in those babies, and I was wrapped. (no pun intended). The seats were REALLY good! They'd be expensive, but it's better than selling the MINI Otherwise a Bolster and some Physio or something might be the thing you need ![]() |

| Whatev. | Like others have mentioned, there has to be an alternative to getting rid of the car. Some people will never understand the thrill of driving a MINI. More addictive than tobacco. I gave up smoking 4 years ago and I seriously reckon I would have a harder time giving up my car than I did with the ciggies. Best of luck! ![]() |

Offline | I'm afraid to say that I have to concur with the "get a new doctor" train of thought, although I suppose that a more expensive doctor would probably be more helpful too! I've got the basic seats in mine (with lumbar support) and have found them to be fine; I've done 8 hours in the car in a day and felt fine at the end of it. Was loaned a Cooper with sports seats for a week and at the end of that my back way twinging quite badly though; still not as bad as Civic Type R though; test drove one of those for 2 hours and was virtually imobile for the next 2 days! |

| Comes and Goes | ouch, that Dr is a pain. your right your car is just right with the set up at the moment. nearly the best mini on the face of the earth! lol have you looked into buying a dufferent seat? recaro and sparco seats do alot for an upright position. they have seats with double lumber support. just a thought. |

Offline | I was always under the impression that the sports seats in the Cooper were the same as those in the MCS? I have sports seats as part of the Chili pack and they look and feel identical to those in MCSs I have seen. "Do try to keep up Nigel!" |

| UberGeek | Get race seats? Seriously.... I went through the a world of pain with the masses of lumbar support that I don't want/need (even wound down to minimum). Fitting Sparco race seats is the single best thing I've done to my MINI. It's not that easy; I mean, getting the seats in is a doddle, but airbags are a problem. If you want to avoid airbag issues, you can go for JCW seats (no airbag issues), but they are mucho £££/$$$ With the race seats in, you sit much lower than the factory seats (even on their lowest setting), but that works well for me, as it means my legs are straighter, and more comfortable. I wrote up a fitting guide, notes on the airbags, and notes on the lack of rear access, here: http://punkey.net/mini/howto-seats.html -Lee |

Offline | I've a herniated disc in my lower back and have had back pain for almost ten years now - I find the MCS seats quiet supportive. It has taken a little bit of adjusting between the height, seat incline and lumbar support right but if anything I think it gives me more support for my back not less. |

Offline | what annoys me is having my seat re-adjusted by the BMW techs giving the MINI a test-drive during servicing etc! ![]() they don't try to put it back how they found it, & even my seatbelt height was also changed last time! ![]() |
