| MINI2 Newbie | Newbie MINI questions, please forgive me... A couple questions... I see several Minis advertised for sale, with the following included... 'Salt Pack', 'Pepper Pack' etc. TLC What are the above 'packages' referring to? I apologize for my ignorance, but I haven't been able to find the answer. TIA. - Ryan 89 STS - Blue Ridge Region SCCA |

Offline | Hi The terminology can seem mysterious but it all makes sense really. The Salt, Pepper and Chilli packs are groups of accessories or options that are packaged together. They include items such as different wheel designs, storage packs, onboard computer , trim levels etc. The exact details are listed on the official MINI site www.mini.com. TLC is an arrangement where (at least as far as the UK is concerned) you pay £100 when you buy a new MINI and you get free servicing for 5 years or 50,000 miles. The details might be different in the USA but the principle is the same. Hope that is of some help. Tony |

Offline | Salt, Pepper, and Chili are all packs only available outside of the US. In the US, the packages available are Premium, Cold Weather, and Sport. www.miniusa.com explains them if you choose to build your own of either model. TLC doesn't exist in the US, but included in the purchase price is 3 years or 36K miles worth of free maintence, so similar thing, but you don't have to pay extra. Magic 8-ball was correct. Offline | They're not equal. In reality, Salt (which is only available on the One, which isn't even sold in the US) is irrelevant. Pepper tends to get you most of what is standard on US spec cars, since the US has a lot more stuff automatically, and Chili has some things that are in all of the US packages. Its really just grouping things together based on what people want, but if you want the specific comparisons, you can just hop over to mini.co.uk and look. I forget the exact differences myself. Offline | Glad to help... sometimes it can be confusing with the British vs. US (and Canadian and Australian) stuff, I find it best to pay attention to people's little flags (ignoring lespurgeon's UN flag ) and then you know if they'll be discussing something specific to their country. In general though, its all relevant, once you know the little differences. The other thing with a One is the placement of MINI in the overall lineup of cars available. In the UK and elsewhere, there's a big issue of fuel milage, insurance cost, and overall cost of cars. Because the US isn't really sensative to any of those, and MINI is priced as a premium small car, there really isn't a lot of sense in selling a stripped down model that costs a bit less and gets a bit better gas milage. Besides the Diesel One, which can't run on US diesel anyway, American customers don't want a car with 90hp, a weaker stereo, and no airconditioning, etc. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |
