United-States My waiting list just got longer. What should I do?

I got on the waiting list In Scottsdale for a MCS in the first week of April. I was told then the wait was 9 months. I talked to them yesterday and they told me the wait is 10 months from now. But they said they are really not sure because some people are taking their name off the list or allocations could go down and the wait will get longer. I called the dealer in Salt lake city today. They told me 6 months but said they can't guarantee anything and instead of 400 miles away like Scottsdale the Salt Lake city dealer is 700 miles away. What do you think I should do? Is the Salt Lake city dealer a good dealer? I would hate to starte all over agian and have a 6 month wait turn into a 10 month wait and have to drive another 300 miles each way for nothing. I guess it's a crap shoot. Which way should I go?

Just order from a dealer without a waiting list, and get the car in a few months, unless you really want to wait for 9 months. Most any dealer from the mississippi eastward will let you order and have delivery pretty quickly, but some are better at shipping to CA then others. Many people have used Mini of the Hamptons.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

I really don't want to drive any further then Salt lake City to buy a car. So, I guess I'll just have to wait. I am going to leave a deposit at the Salt Lake City dealer also. I'll buy from whichever dealer can send my order first. And get my deposit back from the other dealer.

The point is that you don't need to drive from the farther dealers, you just have them ship the car to you, it arrives with 10 or 15 miles on the clock, you pay a bit extra for shipping (though if you notice in the Mini of the Hamptons thread, they were giving some credit towards shipping) but you get your car much sooner.

If you really do want to pick up your car, I understand, but the majority of CA owners have gotten their cars shipped, and never gone in person to the dealer, just done it via phone or email.

I'm guessing Salt Lake is less than 6 months wait. I got on their list in Feb and my MCS is now waiting on the docks. Hope it has the chance to toughen-up there talkign to the longshoremen.

i ordered from mini southbay (over the phone) and they said 90 days, it has arrived to the processing center in exactly 90 days--i don't know how much longer it will be to get to the dealer--but hopefully not longer than a few weeks.

The wait list varies alot by model and location. The wait for a convertible S is horrible on the west coast from what I hear. My guess is that you may even get one cheaper at a location further east from your location. Contact a dealer in a smaller city. Most certainly it should be faster.

One option for shipping would be to purchase a one way ticket to whatever dealership you order it from. Spend a few days getting acquainted with your new Mini on the drive home.

9 Months! You're a lot more patient than I am! I ordered in the beginning of May and have to wait until August. The days just don't seem to go by fast enough! I'm ready to throw myself on the floor and start kicking and screaming!

Cheers,

CYN:

I ordered my MCS from MINI of Murray and it took 99 days from deposit to delivery. It was a very easy process, and the 800 mile drive back to California was great (I spent a leisurely 2 days). Debbie at MoM is very used to out-of-state purchases, and she'll make it work just right. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

ALSO, while shipping usually works out just fine, taking delivery at the dealer will be a better option because you can properly shake down the car.

PM me if you have any questions.

Good luck!

Hang up and drive!

Not sure if you're willing to fly somewhere to pickup the car, but Patrick MINI in Chicago specializes in getting cars for out-of-state clients and seems to get them in pretty fast (like a couple months -- maximum). Gabe over at the Motoring File (www.motoringfile.com) just ordered his from there and seemed to be very happy with his experience.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
