England Breaking her in

My dealer has told me that there is no need to break the MCS in, infact he suggested redline-ing her at every opportunity to get optimum performance in the future, meaning that if you gently break a car in you can hinder long term performance.

Surely this can’t be right (he is a bit of a boy racer!).

Your dealer isn't "going by the book" by saying this. There is a run in procedure in the manual and it's something like keep below 4,500 rpm, don't stress the engine or remain in one gear too long, for about 1,200 miles. (Vaguely).

There are many arguments for running a car in soft, hard, all sorts of theories are on here, and around the motoring world in general.

I played it by the book with my MINIs to make sure if somethig goes "pop", I know it's not my fault for igoring their guidelines!

I was told by my dealer when I collected my M/C, no more than 90mph for the first 1250 miles and keep the revs below 5000.
After 1250 miles..........you can do what you want...

Great thread, many thanks for the pointer.

How frustrating is that first 500 miles going to be?
I would have been tempted to drive hard from the start and then trade in well before the warranty runs out, but I guess that would be non too fair on the poor chap/chapess that parts their hard earned cash on a car that develops a love affair with local garage once it hits middle age.

I purchased a 6 month old TT225 and when it hit 3 years old I had to sell as it developed a few expensive faults, at the time I put that down to under development of the car, but it could have been mine & previous owners driving habits? The dealer knew I had driven it hard as the average MPG was below 17.
