Only just discovered this site!!, but what a great site and bunch of people that exchange ideas and thoughts etc.
Anyway we got our Cooper in March, and have been very pleased with it so far.
One of the amusing things I have noticed when I get to drive it (it's my wife's car really) is that other new Mini drivers in this area of UK wave or flash their lights at you. Even some Rover Mini drivers do it.
As there aren't that many new Mini's around here the car is still quite a head turner, and you can see people say the words Mini if you read their lips!!
Steve (who can't stop smiling when in Mini driver mode)
Halleluja, someone who flashes and waves!
I live in London, and 50% of the MINI owners think you're totally nuts if you wave!
Luckily, the other 50%, and the majority of Rover Mini owners wave back.
Don't ignore anyone. If they get upset at you because of the "color of your skin" that's their problem... WAVE ON!!
I had one of those new roadsters everyone is making now about 1.5 years ago and was waving at every other convertible on the road. They thought I was nuts and my friends would tell me to quit when they rode along. Hey, I'm just out having fun. Sorry if you're too serious.

I live in Staines and travel to work through West and North London. I have been wanting to wave ever since I picked up my car 2 weeks ago but no-one seems keen and I didn't know it was a Mini thing... until reading this! but now I will definately wave at every Mini I see. Lets start a nationwide campaign!
My other half drives a scoobie, and the scoobie drivers always wave, so lets do it!

Oi Ciaran...No!!!
You can't go calling the people on MiniClassic a "sad bunch" without any justification.
I think that people who have to "wear the right jeans, the right trainers, the right shirts and listen to the right music" are sad sheep, but I didn't post that after your reply in the Italian Job thread.
If you are going to insult me (as you did by calling the MiniClassic members a sad bunch), then at least justify your reason...unless you can't think of a valid one?

When I see a MINI flash at me, it's sometimes too late to flash back, so I wave, sometimes you don't know if they know you've acknowledged them! When I flash at people they usually ignore me. Usually the one's in silver/black!

1. The "sad bunch" are the ones on the Old Mini vs New Mini thread. It was these to which I was referring (some of whom are new mini owners I'm sure, but mostly bitter sounding old mini owners who refuse to accept progress!)
2. "right jeans, right trainers, right music etc". Errrmmm, supposed to be ironic....sarcastic.....whats up? Are you American?
3. I didn't insult you. Perhaps I insulted your taste where the old discontinued mini is concerned. But you shouldn't take it personally if someone says he or she doesn't like the old discontinued mini. I have never really liked it and never really will. Maybe without its existence, I wouldn't have a new mini, but thats beside the point.
I don't take it personally if someone looks at me funnily when I'm listening to Westlife at top volume in my new mini. Oh dear shouldn't have said that should I, thats not really the right music. Oh well, it's no more anyway as it was one of the CD's the thief nicked from my car.
Definitely the most handsome Mini Cooper driver in the Southwest (if not the world)!
Ciaran, you did insult me because I am one of those "sad" people from the Mini V MINI forum. However after a nice apology from your good self I will say no more on the matter

PS I'm not American, but I think you must be living up to your stereotypical image. Tone of voice does not really transfer across the Internet very well, that's what the emoticons are for
PPS The emoticon I've just used is for sarcasm, just in case you don't know
