Offline | A "top spec" Scooper is going to be 50% more expensive to buy. And also to insure. That'd buy you quite a tidy second car... 54 Plate All Black Cooper S with Chilli, BoostCD, MFSW, Heated bits.http://www.evoposters.net/carsb/album43 |

Offline | What's better will never get a straight answer and consensus from all members. I went from a Cooper to an S and I've never looked back. Well, I glance, but I've no regrets. ![]() There aint no party like my nana's tea party |

![]() I can't spell | nskm1, I am in the same situation. I am currently leasing a Cooper and after I had an S as a loaner car I fell in love. Prior to that I had really wanted a Cabrio when my lease was up. Well I now plan on ending my lease early and getting a cabrio MCS. My advice is test drive the S if you haven't already, I think you will then have an answer. ![]() RIP Boo |

Offline | Yes, I agree -- at least test-drive an S. I love mine! Of course, I prefer driving a stick, so that was an easy choice there. Plus, I like as much power out of a car as I can get. I never considered an MC; for me, it was MCS or nothin'... But you gotta test drive one for yourself and make sure it's worth it to YOU. ![]() Look at that little S car go! [Sold 2/06] |

| The S stands for speed! | I am with you 100%! I am a stick shift kind of guy and after not having a stick shift in my life for 3 years, I wanted, no, make that needed to have one. I love Sportbikes, but drive a dangerous road to work, so I got rid of mine. Wife really doesnt want me to get another one, so I am getting the next best thing...MCS. As far as "But you gotta test drive one for yourself and make sure it's worth it to YOU." NO TRUER STATEMENT CAN BE MADE. Motor on |

Offline | The spec swung it for me, also the slight performance gain - the Cooper felt a little slow for me. 54 Plate All Black Cooper S with Chilli, BoostCD, MFSW, Heated bits.http://www.evoposters.net/carsb/album43 |

Offline | I'll stick up for the Cooper I could have afforded an S, insurance is OK at my age (mid 30's) as well but went for my Cooper instead after a test drive of both. After years of driving coupes like the Celica and Cougar V6 (new edge type), and having much the same driving experience in each one (smooth torque curve throughout the range, plenty of power), I wanted something different. Yes, the S is a fantastic car, nice and fast with a linear power delivery. Personally, I liked the 4,000 rpm boost you get with the Cooper, great fun, entertaining and grin-inducing every time. Overall the Coop feels very nearly as peppy as my previous cars, only now I have the superb MINI handling and a smile on my face You just do everything one gear lower in the Coop, keep the revs up and the fun factor bubbling. The better fuel economy, lower insurance and lower overall cost of the Coop was an added bonus, and meant I could load up on the options. As everyone says, test drive both and choose the best fit for you. |

Offline | an another thing.....power is not all things to all men and women. The cooper can be specced to provide the same suspension set-up as the cooper s. Mine has this. So on the twistes mine has the same profile. The difference is that the S is the performance model of the range and so offers increased power and a supercharger whine as well as 6 speed gearbox. So if extra bhp is your thing go S (after a test drive of both )adios and may the sales force be with you. Offline | It's easy to decide Test drive both models. See which you like best. If it is the S, then decide if you like it enough to find the extra money to buy and run it. I made the choice to get another Cooper which arrives later this year. The S is quicker but you get used to that so quickly that unless you drive another car regularly you don't appreciate the extra speed it has. On todays roads it's so easy to speed easily. I personally don't like the S gearbox and I much prefer the 5 speed. The design of the Cooper also appeals to me more than the S. ![]() |
