Offline | Gas Light Beep (and flash!) Hi, I have a Sept built 04 MCS. One of the programmable options I chose was to have my gas light beep when it comes on. When I received my car, this was not programmed in. Before I drive 200 miles to the dealer to have them program this, I wanted to find out if this is something that others have sucessfully have had programmed on the 04's. If so, how loud is it? Can you hear it pretty easily? I had this option in my VW and loved it. I think this would be especially useful since the gas light is pretty low profile in the MINI. Thanks, mczinn Last edited by mczinn : Jul 13th, 2004 at 07:44 PM. |

Offline | The low fuel light in the MINI is in a bad place. You have got to be looking at the needle to see it. Mine came on last week and I never heard a beep, may have had the radio up to loud, but I always hear and see the light when it comes on in my VW. After the light came on [or after I looked down and saw it on] I drove about 5 more miles and filled up. Took 11.0 gls. .........but I could be wrong. |

| M5 Extraordinare! | Ya it is in a bad place where its not noticable unless you look for it. But I always look for the needle. I wonder if I can get it programmed to beep. I know I have never heard it beep and I usually wait till the light comes on before filling up. |

Offline | I know I've heard mine beep - even when my radio was on. I think it beeped at 1/8 tank, although I'm not positive. I have 1/4 tank now, so I'll make sure to listen for it this week! |

Offline | All that said, I know of several dealerships less than 200 (or even 100) miles from Davis. Niello in Sacto, SF MINI, East Bay, Mountain View. You should be able to cajole a local dealer to program it for you. |

| The S stands for speed! | And does this little program cost? I have one on order, should be here next month, wonder if that little feature will already be there. You know, I was thinking about going to the dealer tomorrow (Neillo in Sacramento), I need a fix anyhow. I will ask about it during the quick ride arround the block. Motor on |

Offline | East Bay Mini told me that if I go to Niello to have this changed they will most likely charge me since I bought my car at East Bay MINI. All other warranty work is covered, but programming changes are not (like I said, unless you buy the car there). I plan on having the rest of my work done at Neillo since it is closer. I was exaggerating with the 200 miles, but going to EBM is a pain and that was my point. I called them yesterday and they don't seem to know what I am talking about with the gas light beep. But it was on their programming list they had me fill out, so I will let you know if it is possible when I find out. |

| The S stands for speed! | I just called Neillo and they didn't know what I was talking about. He is going to have a rep from service call me and see if he knows anything abot that. Just figured while everything else was being installed, might as well get that done too. Motor on |

Offline | I picked up my MC from East Bay MINI at the end of January 2004. After my car arrived at the dealership, they called me with a list of programmable options (no extra charge). The options included: the low-gas beep (which, by the way, only beeps once), the "follow-me-home" lights, having your doors lock when you reach 10MPH, having the doors unlock when you turn off the ignition, and having day-time running lights on. I think that's it, but there may have been more. Anyhow, my understanding was that this was routine (although I hadn't heard of it before on mini2.com) and was part of the dealer prep. |

Offline | One other quick question. I think I read somewhere on this forum that the autolocking at 10 mph is now mandetory on the 04's. But somehow, they managed to program mine not to lock automatically (my choice). When they go to program the gas light, is it going to mess up my other programming options? I don't want to lose the ones I already have including disabling the autolock. -mczinn |
