My first EVER speeding ticket – come, commiserate

After 25 years or so of driving I garnered my first speeding ticket. It took my 04 MCS to win me that prize. I really wasn’t go that fast…. Except that the speed limit had recently been lowered by 25 mph.

There was a car in front of me, and one coming up quick behind me, but alas, I was the one who was nabbed. I think the Officer just wanted to see my car. He asked me a lot of questions about it, what dealer I got it from (hello, it says that on my rear license plate frame), do I like the car, how long have I had it, does it drive well, is it fun?

I tell you, I would have dropped dead on the spot from laughter if he had asked me if it had “zip” or some other phrase to indicate if it was fast! His parting words were “try to take it a little slower if you can.” I bit my lip. Really, I CAN’T!

It hasn’t set in yet. I think I am still in a bit of shock. I do drive fast, I admit that freely. I also drive safe. Still, I’ve driven a Corvette for 18 years. I’d have thought THAT car would get me my first speeding ticket!

I must go out shopping now. It’s the best cure for shock don’t you know.

I don't drive too fast ... you just look too slow! We're not lost ... this is the scenic route

Nice car though. What's the story behind the cow?

That really sucks that he was cool about the car and asking questions about it, then gave you a ticket. I feel your pain.

He asked all that and didn't let you go??? Jerk. Especially if the limit had recently been lowered.

Ahhh the cow. I'm not sure this message board is ready for the cow tale (trust me, it's sweet and sappy and makes all the females go "awwwww")

Well, let's say I don't really know when the speed limit had been lowered, probably within the last two months. (so it wasn't like it was 70MPH last week) ... but when you drive the same route every day ... do you really notice such things?

Word has it he was camped out at the same place this morning. I, knowingly, took a different route. If traffic is flowing 70, it's just not in me to go 45.

I suppose the part hat sucks most is there aren't to many IB/W MINIs in town with an American Flag on the roof. I'm a marked woman.

BS (what a shorthand name),

I also collected my first ever speeding ticket in my "S", the date was one year ago. I have had a clean driving record since 1964. I was cited for 84 in a 70, only because I hit the brakes hard after the radar detector went off. My first violation in 40 years of driving. If I had to get a ticket, I would choose the MINI as the best way to do it. Just this past week I got a love letter from my insurance company, they finally discovered that I had a moving violation. They will increase my rates, insult on top of injury! Somehow I don't think that this will be my last speeding ticket in the MINI.

I'm sure once my insurance company catches it, it will cost me much more than the original fine. Oh the price one pays for a little Monday Morning fun.

Got my first ticket 2 weeks ago in France doing 168km/h..... on the way to Le Mans.

Funny enough, that was after AVERAGING 160km/h the whole day the day before....

90 Euros wasn't too bad. It was my first and my last car had a lot more power and goes to 235km/h...... just goes to show... Minis and speed...

I received my MINI S. June in 2002. The secomd day the police stop me for a speeding ticket. Year I was going real FAST!!!! 94mph in a 50 zone. Big fine.....
He said this is the first MINI and I wanted to see it. He looked around and was very big with his complements. Got ticket anyhow.

He smiled and said go to court and fight it. I didn't understand. So, I went to court and he didn't show up. Ticket dismissed. A few weeks later I see his patrol car and stop to talk with him. I ask him why he did not show up in court.
He smile with a big grin and said" How can I show up. " Just bought one myself"
We both had a big talk and now meet at our local club. Lucky guy I know

Just this week I got by without a ticket. I was traveling on a business trip and needed to make a stop at the rest area. There were about 4 or 5 trucks lined up in the right lane 1/2 mile from the pull off so I buzzed around them at about 80 or 85 and then pulled into the exit. Just as I park and get out of the car a state trooper pulls up behind me. He rolls down the window, asks where I'm heading, where I've come from and some other general questions. I'm thinking for sure he clocked me and is about to write me up when instead he gets a big smile on his face and says he's got a Chili Red MCS just like mine in his garage at home. Instead of a ticket we talked MINI's for 15 minutes w/o a word about how fast I was driving! I'm sure my time will come but it wasn't this week.

hmmm, if only it hadn't been rush hour and we could've bonded a bit more ... perhaps then I would have gotten off with only a warning. Seems so bitter sweet ... I love your car, here's a lovely ticket as your parting gift.

Maybe I should have tried crying??
