BMW to stop Mini production

Just had an amusing conversation with a second hand car dealer. He told me that the "trade gossip" was that BMW could not afford to make the Mini any longer as it was costing too much to manufacturer them and they were not making enough money! This guy was deadly serious - I left the garage with a big smile on my face

Thats twice ive heard this on here....... is this the only way infearior brands have of trying to get sales off Mini??? If someone like Mini/BMW couldnt do the sums then there would be something seriously wrong

Well i cannot see it, sounds utter rubish. I would have challenged him, and said why have they just brought a 05 spec out then

it is rubbish but i think theres some truth in the fact that BMW feel its costing them too much to produce the MINI and are definitely taking steps to lower costs and increase the production.
According to AutoExpress the MINI is going to have a plastic clip on roof by 2007 as the painting of contrasting roof is limiting production to 180,000 per year.

Hope I didn't upset anyone on here, I just found the salesmans comments laughable. I think that he was trying to worry me. He certainly would not be a credible source IMHO.

No - the cars will be painted as usual and then if you want a contrasting roof it will be a clipped on - the story said it was the same principal as mobile phone covers.

If this is true, it sounds like a great idea.

They do this on the MCC Smart, why not on the MINI?
