How long was it after you placed your order that you received your build date and number?

i ordered my MCS on the 31st May but have not yet received any more information...

is this normal?

it really depends on who you ordered it from, and how long their waiting list is.
I placed my order in early September 2003. I got my production number the first week of December.

I've been told that delivery will be around October time..

I forgot to mention that my was was delivered at the end of January. I'm in San Francisco, so the boat trip is further than for others..I think it was on the boat from Oxford for 24 days or so.

In the US, your order is not placed until the dealer has a build allocation to modify. The earliest a dealer will receive their allocations is about 5 weeks prior to first build week of the month. When a dealer modifies a build allocation to meet the specs of your MINI, he can provide you with a production number to track your car.

As an example, my dealer received the build allocations for June 2002 builds on April 26, 2002. I've received the production number for my MINI on that date and it was originally scheduled to be built by June 7, which was the Friday of the first build week for customer spec'd cars. In the end my MINI was "born" early on May 28, 2002

You got lucky. 24 days, is just over 3 weeks. I was told the boat ride would be from 4 to 5 weeks

, so 24 days is a dream. Maybe I will get lucky and they were just giving 'worst case scenario.'
