Offline | U.S. Dealers: Process to Order a New Mini? I am intereted in ordering a Mini Cooper S from a dealer within trhe U.S. (i am in southern california). What do most dealerships require (both in and out of state) for you to place an order of a car to your specs? Do they require a credit check, deposit, contract?? Any help, advice, or recommendations are appreciated as i am looking to order one as soon as possible. Thank You |

| The S stands for speed! | Neillo in Sac just does a credit check. If it is all good, they will order it, no $ out of pocket. You can also cancel your order at anytime with no recourse. They do charge $1000 over MSRP for a MC and $2500 over on a MCS. Approx 3-4 months to get your car. East Bay Mini in Pleasanton wants you to put $1000 down. they will refund your $ if you change your mind, however, they do have a 12 month waiting list since they do charge MSRP only....anyone for a '06? Motor on |

| M5 Extraordinare! | In southern Cali most of them all charge over MSRP a few thousands ranging from $2500 to $6000!!!! and as few as no wait to a year wait. Long Beach MINI is the only dealer in So Cal who doesnt charge over MSRP but they are also the one with the longest wait list. To get on just call them and tell them. No need to put money down no credit check nothing. Call them give them your info and happy waiting... Out of state it depends... you just have to call around... MINI of the Hamptions in Long Island NY has zero wait list and can order now and you will have your car in about 8 weeks. of course Plus shipping it from NY to So Cal which is about $1000 I myself have priced a fully enclosed transfer at $1800 back in 2003. Where in "So Cal" are you? |

Offline | I am in Covina (about 30 minutes east of L.A.). I am not willing to pay over MSRP and dont mind waiting to get exactly what i want. My big concern with out-of-state is registration, purchasing (financing, shipping, etc.), and that i will not be able to actually look at and drive the car before purchasing it. If anyone has any experience with out-of-state mini buying, could you tell me where you got it, and the process you had to go through (how all the paper work was done and finished). I am really looking to have some idea of what im getting into before i try to contact a specific dealer. Thank You |

Offline | See if the CA DMV has registration info/requirements on their website. They should have a list of all paperwork, forms, etc. that will be required to register a car purchased out of state. I recently purchased my MC from a dealership in CT (I'm 3 hours away in RI). The only hiccup was the woman at the DMV...all the right information was there, just not in the spot she wanted it. My dealer sent me a revised bill of sale via overnight courier, and all was well the following day. |
