United-Kingdom Ticking noise in low revs

Hello everyone this is the first tiime I have been to these forums and the site is cool.
Can anyone help?
I ma getting a ticking/click noise either when speeding up or slowing down at low to mid revs. The dealer can hear the noise but cannot find find anything wrong! It is very frustrating and other than a faulty motor on the passenger window early on when owning the car this is the only thing that has gone wrong. My mini named Marty by my wife has just gone past 19000miles. Cheers Squiders

Hi Squiders and welcome to MINI2

You''ll find we're a friendly bunch and very helpful whenever we can be.

We've not experienced this on our MINI but there has been some talk recently on the Cooper S forum about ticking noises.

I'm fairly new here myself and haven't yet figured out to include a link to another thread so I can't send you there directly but if you look in the Cooper S Forum or use the forum search facility you should find at least one discussion about this.

Good to know you've had good service form your MINI. Ours is only 3 months old but we've done 4000 trouble free (and fun packed ) miles so far.

The first thing I would look at is the cambelt, and check the pulleys. It could also be one of the valves is stuck, and needs adjusting.

The only other thing I can think of, is pre-detonation, which is more of reffered to as pinking. But this should only occur when you are trying to pull away in to higher gear, and this definately shouldn't happen wen deaccelerating. If its blantent, id suggest to them the valves thing.

Er......nice try......

The engine has camshafts driven by a duplex chain........so it's not likely to be the cambelt......

Also the engine has knock sensors so the ECU would compensate on the fuelling if detonation were really occurring......

My MCS "ticks" at idle.......something I believe they all do........try doing a search in "Faults and Fixes" for "ticking noise", I seem to recall a thread in early 2003 that ran for a while regading this......

Hope your dealer sorts it.....

Oh and welcome to MINI2 BTW!
