Thumbs up The Ikea Trip

just in case anyone wanted to know how many boxes can fit inside a mini.....with room left over for another foot stool or two....

4 of the boxes 43"x20"
1 40"x23"
2 36"x25"
1 12"x24"

1 bag of 3 rubber balls.

all passenger seats were folded down.....had 5"x24" free against the boot door, and room enough for one more chair of the 43"x20" variety.

had room on top of the boxes for a few more seat cushions, and the passenger side front was completely empty.

oh well.......just thought it might interesting.

.......hey you kids, get off the road..............

Wow, I'm impressed!

My best Ikea story is driving home in a thunderstorm with a sofa strapped to the top of a minivan. Wish I had gotten a picture.

A few of weeks ago, The Lady of The House and I brought home a new lawnmower, still boxed up, partially hanging out of the back end of Buzz (the Mini), boot lid held as far down as it would go with bungee cords. Got some interesting looks in the parking lot as we were loading it.

We also learned that the significant updraft at the back end really begins in earnest at 40 mph. Had to pull over and re-adjust the bungees when the lid started going up. Other than that, we made it just fine, though. Following the recommendations in the manual to have the front windows down for adequate ventilation, of course.

No pics, I'm afraid.

Right after I got my MINI I bought myself a 27 inch TV (of course the box is about twice that size). When the guy at the store brought it out to the car he goes to me "You have to be kidding". The box fit with about a half inch of space on each side. Never occured to me to take a picture.

RIP Boo

yeah, i was getting some strange looks from the folks in the parking lot as well. partly, i am sure, because the place was packed, and people wanted my spot up front. It did take 3-4 package shiftings to get everything in. I wanted to take a picture of the car actually packed, but completely forgot about it when i got home.

on the plus side, i now have 4 more dinning room chairs, a step stool, an elm chest/coffee table(needs to be finished off), and one of those funky pagnoge(sp) chairs......plus a couple rubber balls for the boys.

Wonder what I'll get in my cab.... was at my folks at the w/e, took them down to their local dealer to see the car - my father being the practical sort was most impressed with the load capacity (and the dinky thing you can do with the roof to get a wider aperture)

My 'big load' (oo-er) story - 15 bags of sand and cement into a Porsche Boxster - now that got some looks of disbelief down Homebase...

we went to Ikea last week and as well as lots of other things, bought one of those large rugs they sell... well lets just say i didn't have the most comfortable ride home... i was the passenger and had to hold the rug up in the air, out of the way of the gear stick and hand brake so the driver could actually drive... the rug ran from the boot door right through the car (rear seats folded down), between the 2 front seats and then there's me attepting to hold it out of the way, for a 40minute trip home.... god was my arm aching by the end of it!... but the car was bigging enough to hold the rug... so can't really complain!!

At 25kg each that's 375kg that's 4 slightly overweight fully grown males

(what was the suspension like afterwards )

I wonder if anyone has managed to get a Billy bookcase (the tall/wide ones) in a Mini? That would be very cool if it fits .

Dave.

Fine - though it was only half a mile to my house, no twistys or speed bumps.

Completely buggered the suspension on my first car - Cavalier - in my yoof - driving 30 miles at speed with patio slabs galore in the back - steering was nice and light though!

You can fit quite a lot into a MINI with the back seats down. It's deceptively roomy in there, especially if you're prepared to compromise on rear visibility and you don't take any passengers. I've fitted four old 15" monitors, a half an old bicycle, an assortment of boxes and some more junk in my MINI on a trip to the local tip (municipal refuse collection place). Got a bit mucky inside, but my MINI was by far the coolest car there...
