Wales Shell V-power

Anyone got information on the Shell V-Power that's replaced the 95 Octane rated fuel at Shell stations. From what I can gather it seems to be rated at 100 octane but also has a number of additives. Is it OK for use in MINI's. I'm concerned about the additives!

V power?

Would that be the same as Optimax as what we have in UK?

From the Shell website:
"What is the octane rating of Shell V-Power?
Octane ratings for premium gasoline vary across the country. The octane level of Shell V-Power is anywhere from 90 to 93 octane, depending on the region."

I saw a sign for it just today and wondered the same thing. Here is Shells website about it. Can't say I'm inclined to try it though - I've been using mostly Chevron in my MCS and it seems happy with that.

His - 04 CR/W MCS
Hers - 05 BEP/W MCS

I use Shell V-Power almost all the time, although it's a lot more expensive (1.25 Euro/litre, 83p/litre) than any other petrol/gasoline. It's recommended from reports here because it has high quality detergents and cleaning agents added - I do lots of short journeys in my MCS. Although Texaco Super-Plus comes out well in this respect too.

I *think* I can notice a difference in performance with V-Power than with normal Super-Plus unleaded (which is 98 Ron, V-Power is "Shell guaranteed" at least 100 RON), although in my experience it took a couple of tankfulls before I noticed any difference. I'm pretty sure that it runs more smoothly and the throttle response seems better with V-Power, but I could be imagining it....

Yeah, V-Power is the same as Optimax in the UK (I think),

Seems like V-Power is NOT the same as Optimax, differs from country to country with regard to Octane rating:

Optimax is the only common 98 fuel in the UK. It's followed closely by BP's Ultimate, which is 97. Most other unleaded fuels are 95. Driving the TT, the general consensus was that Optimax had the edge on performance, BP Ultimate very close so as not to be noticable normally.

I always used Optimax - having had the TT remapped, I was advised strongly by the tuner only to use 98 grade fuel. Having done some research, it seems that the lower grade of fuel could have lost up to 20Bhp, depending on who you'd like to believe.

Unless I have the Cooper S tuned, it will run on 95 grade fuel, simply down to expense and convenience - unless someone gives some very good reasons why to stick to a higher grade fuel?

If you believe what the oil companies tell you... Optimax and BP Ultimate are supposed to return better fuel economy. Apparently the gain in power and throttle respnse added with the decrease in consuption make normal fuel a false economy.

Like I said... I f you believe what they tell you...

I can believe that they would return better fuel economy... but not to make up the difference in price, which is quite large around our way.

i didn't belive in V-power

until i tried it for 4 fills

at the same driving speed and manner I can get now at least 60 kilometers MORE from a fill than with 95 octane gas.. when driving to brussels and back it makes a difference for 100 kilometers...

why am i sure about that :

my GF lives in brussels ( 160 km from here)
belgium is very expensive for tickets so i use the cruise control at 135 km/h

and doing the trip at least 2 times a week.. i notice the increase of mileage since i switched
