I noticed that the Cooper is rated for towing relatively light loads. At first I was pretty excited, as my wife and I have considered picking up a small sailboat in a year or two, and we currently have nothing to pull it about.

But, I thought I'd finally settled on needing the S when I decided to browse the technical specs on this site again (I can't find anything about towing on the Miniusa site, probably as there isn't an approved hitch yet). I notice under the S that it is listed as being not applicable.

I can only surmise that this is due to the centered dual exhaust (one of the styling touches I love about the S). Certainly the engine and transmission in the S should be more to the task of pulling something about than the Cooper. Can anyone else comment on this? Anyone from other parts of the world used their Cooper with a trailer?

You could have a look here, as it's been raised a number of times before. Try the search engine, and click the show as "posts" button for more specific posts in the many different threads, that often change subject about 20 times.

I am planning to tow with my S. I am going to fit a standard Cooper towbar and an after market exhaust with twin outboard pipes.

Towing a boat would look pretty cool......towing a trailor with a Z8 or something would be even cooler
