| Damned | The DVLA has got Too Greedy If anyones tried to get a good registration directly from the DVLA lately, they will know how hard it has become. Try putting in a Name or Word on the new type plates & you will see that all they have (almost) All been refered for Future Auction. For example, on the current style plate, (54), which you can pre-order ready for September 2004 onwards cars, they have either upped the price from the standard £499 or Totally Stopped all plates being instantly available. I tried searching for a Friend, (ANDY), by looking at "MC54NDY" & found that All plates ending with "_ _54NDY" are now reserved for "Future Auction", with a button to register your interest in it ...Up the reserve price more like Similarly, a search for "LE54_ _ _" yields nothing as they also want to make a bundle off every Les / Lesley / (& I assume ... Lesbian). When I did a similar search, late last year, for the then forthcoming "04" plates, I was pleased when I found "CL04KED" with an asking price of the standard £499. Before the actual day of sale, I rechecked the DVLA site only to find that it had now "Been reserved for future auction" .. Sparking off a Mad Conspiracy idea in me that ...the DVLA monitored what people were searching for & then either instantly withdrew it, or jacked up its price. I know ...Mad idea, what Government Agency would stoop to those levels Upon further searching I found that some letter combinations have been totally withdrawn ...not just the obviously rude ones . Its impossible to get a plate starting in XE54_ _ _ (it would say "_ _ _ _S-E-X " when viewed in the Mirror of a car in front .. and thus presumably shock them into dropping their mobile & crash. Even "SM54GRO" has been withdrawn .. unless of course someone equally twisted beat me to it But if anyones interested "B18 CUM" is still available for the Bargain price of £399- Give it a try, & see if you can beat the Censors .. http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/ ![]() In da Wud Last edited by Restyle : Jul 6th, 2004 at 10:59 PM. |

Offline | I really don't know how the system works (not being there), but it seems like a total scam. The worst part is it seems to be competiting with the government. You try and be creative and get some unique #, but that means something to you. They see you got the #, throw it into their computer, and the next poor slob who wants something similar pays even more for it. It seems like since they have a year between the similar 52, the 53, then 54 regs, each time they find more of what people wanted, and go and make it more of a pain. Sad really, and I'm just looking at it from the outside. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

Offline | I was lucky and managed to pick up my number plate last week (M444 KOP) But i do agree Restyle, the DVLA website has become so much worse. I remember before they had an overhaul, that pretty much everything was available on there without being reserved or highly priced. The other thing that the DVLA is so bad for is keeping people waiting around for paperwork. As the local office is 12 miles down the road, i applied in person and was waiting an hour before I even spoke to someone ![]() ![]() |

Offline | They may be holding back the current NO. plates but the best deals are still on the older registration plates, very good deals. The problem with a lot of people is they want the latest plate which is totally against the whole idea of having a private plate, which is to hide the year of car. I am putting a 6 year old plate on my Conv. TOP OFF AT LAST. (Everybody be cool, you, be cool.) |

| Damned | Here`s a good test of the DVLA Conspiracy theory. They`ve just announced that they will be releasing the "E (1-20) XXX" plates from 1987, which have been previously unavailable. They will be up for sale to the Public from 6th October 2004 See :- http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/en/Se...refix?prefix=E I`ve just gone through them looking for anything interesting & noting "TODAYS" price. I wonder how many will either go up in price, or be "withdrawn for future auction", depending on how many people search for that particular combination. I`m bound to have missed a few, let me know E1 ATE ... ELATE = £1199 E1 AND ... ELAND = £1499 E1 EGY ... ELEGY = £1199 E1 FLN ... ELFIN = £1199 E1 LTE ... ELITE = £1199 E1 UDE ... Offline | I don't blame the DVLA. As long as there are mugs out there willing to pay hundreds of pounds for combinations of letters and numbers that mean nothing to anyone else and that have to be illegally mis-placed to spell anything they can keep on jacking up the price ad infinitum. It's just simple supply and demand. "Do try to keep up Nigel!" |

| MINI2 Newbie | Guys, Try searching for 54MMY - every one of them is reserved for auction, I was searching to buy one for my son long before he ever needs it. Robbers. Theives! Also, have you ever been into your local DVLA office? It's an age waiting to be served. I was transferring a cherished plate from one vehicle to another, finally got served, handed over the paperwork - everything ok - then went to pay the transfer fee by switch. Oh dear - they can't take any form of plastic, must be cash or cheque. What is that about in this day and age? Not even a sign to warn you. Back of the queue sonny once you've been to the atm, and we don't care how long you have to wait again. And how did I originally pay for the cherished number in the first place? That's right, by plastic over the phone to dvla. Crap - the lot of 'em!! Cheers! Scott Well, Duh! Of course I ate all the pies!! Last edited by Scottch : Sep 13th, 2004 at 09:07 AM. |

| Damned | Hi Scottch & a Big Welcome to MINI2 Its good to know that an article on the Thieving ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() at the DVLA can persuade someone to feel That Annoyed with them, that they write their 1st Post on MINI2. I agree with Every Word, as I`ve been held up in Their Queue in similar Circumstances. Ive just noticed that they`re doing the same Price Differential with 3 Letter Names on the -E- series. E1 -- TOM, SUE, LES, DAN, etc ..are all priced at £1499, ...while E (2-20) Names are £999 RobDogs ![]() ![]() In da Wud |

Offline | The worst part is you are only paying for the right to display that registration. If you transfer its another £80, if you put it on retention its £25 per year or you lose it. The other point is if your car is stolen you cannot display the reg for 12 months after if it is not recovered. If your car is written off make sure you get your plate off otherwise it goes with the car to the insurance company. I have a letter from my insurer to state that they have no claim on my number. MCS JCW EB/B 210 Bhp lots of extras! ![]() |
