Its a Hydrocalator. I saw a program on FOX about it a few years ago. People that remove them, there car goes nuts and drives into walls and things. The show mentioned that they were not sure what it actually does, but hihgly recommended that it not be removed.

OK OK.

Flux capacitors aren't that shape. The photo was taken underneath the right rear wheel arch looking upwards, with the black inner lining removed. I can only guess it is something to do with the fuel system.
