I have been looking over all the international new MINI sites, and I have noticed a big difference in how the car is presented to different nations.

To me, the most notable seems to be the USA, and the Netherlands, who get a very different style to the UK site.

Anybody else surfed the official MINI sites? Anyone else found another nations site more appealing than their own?

I did!

I think that it's going to take a great deal of promotion to make the new mini attractive to us Americans.
Since Europeans inherently love hatchbacks there won't be as much fanfare as there will here in the states.

...Just my opinion...

I think it will take a lot to make the new MINI work as BMW intend, i.e as a up market cool "toy" car.

It will be interesting to see how their marketing strategies pan out leading up to, and then followning the cars release in different places.

I am actually surprised that BMW hasn't teased us with a commerical or two.
Maybe we'll see something during the Super Bowl.

I think that the general US population is unaware of the new MINI, or for that matter even the original version......all it takes is a slick TV ad campaign and people will go "APE-****" over it! 20,000 units will go fast!

Hah, they had better not sell so fast that I can't get my hands on one (for a reasonable price)

The dot-com collapse isn't helping them. Where there used to be a whole class of well-educated, creative aesthetes running around with IPO cash, now there are a lot of worried people thinking about how to cut back.

It's really hard to say how well the MINI will do over here. There *is* a trend towards smaller cars (the new Suzuki campaign reflects this) so the car may appear at the right time. My sense is that as long as BMW isn't trying to take over the world, they'll sell as many as they like.

It's worth noting that people pay $20k+ for a new GTI, or 6-cyl Jetta, which is right in the price range of the MINI.
