Offline | Just to let you all know, on Feb. 14th, 2001 Frank Stephenson (the designer of the new MINI) has joined this forum. I have contacted him personally and verified that this is indeed him. Frank and several other BMW officials have been wandering around the site. Have a question or comment to Frank please let him know. He seems like a real swell bloke and has told us he would be very interested in hearing questions from you all. So post away and I'm sure when he visits he will answer your questions. |

Offline | So Frank, when are we going to hear from anyone who can tell us how the cars actually drive? All we've heard so far is someone saying "I talked to a guy from BMW who said it drives great." |

Offline | Actually, would Mr. Stephenson be available to give an interview, perhaps via email? I'm not interested in breaking any scandals, and it would require BMW AG's blessing in any case. It's just that the "MINI Lab" on MINI.com raised more design questions than it answered... |

Offline | I have a request! If many of you are like me, we currently drive 4 door BMW's and other European sedans but would really like to move into something that feels more like a sports car. The only problem is, 1. where do you put the kid? (no problem in the new MINI) and 2. I'd hate to give up my nice comfortable sedan that is relatively quick and get a new MINI and get blown away by a GTI. Please O' Please give us the power to weight ratio to not be bothered by cars like the GTI (although I like the GTI, it doesn't have the panache of the new MINI). This is a legendary car being brought to the future. In it's time and in it's class, nothing could touch it. I'd love to see that come true again please!!!! Something in the 12:1 range would be nice! -Mike |

Offline | The 6-cylinder engined GTI weighs about 3000 lbs and has 174 hp which is about a 17:1 ratio. The estimates I've seen for the MINI Cooper S are 2500 lbs and 160 hp which is about 15.6:1. If you're looking for a 12:1 ratio, you'll have to get a John Cooper Works MINI which is rumored to have 197 hp. |

Offline | This is so cool. I assume he, and other BMW/MINI officials still lurk on here? If so, thanks for making such an awesome car. But I still want more power! ![]() |
