The US magazines so far have lumped our new Mini in with the "hot hatches" like Civic SIs, Focus, etc., the cars that I see 18-25 year olds throwing exhaust tips on (gawd they sound poor!), and driving poorly all over town at stupid speeds. Some how, I think we may not fit that demographic. So..who are we?
I'm a 48 year old teacher; married with a five year old. Any other old farts out there?
OK, I turn 50 in less than 2 weeks. I've been married for 27 years and have 3 kids, the oldest of which graduates from college next month. There seem to be both youngsters and old farts drooling over the MINI.
One of my birthday presents is a trip up I-95 to the New York Auto Show to see the MINI in person(and to take my wife to a Broadway show). Can't wait to get a close look at the car.
Well, I'm 44 with a wife and 3 kids. I'm an International Human Resources manager for a telecom company, so I'm not part of that trendy demographic that BMW is looking for. I fall into the "old farts who know and love what a real Mini is" classification. But I'll gladly purchase a new MINI COOPER S if it lives up the the important attributes of its namesake.
Hey guys. I am sorry. I am 22. I guess i fit right in that demographic. I will promise i will drive it properly and not act like a jackass with my car. Why would i want to drive like an idiot. I dont want to smash it up. I am a Designer so i guess that is also is in the demographic they were looking at. Blah. Sorry to let you down.
I'm a 24 year old computer technician / rookie web designer. I have a Honda del Sol VTEC right now, but everything on my car is stock. No coffee can muffler tip... no clear tail lights... no park benches for a spoiler... no blue head lights... none of that "rice-boy" bull$hit.
I love my car, and anything that I do to it in the future will be for performance only.
I love this board. I'm so used to being one of the "old farts" on the crx board (I turn 35 next month). Of course, I am also one of those aholes who has the ungodly exhaust and some silly mods, but life's too short to worry about what everyone else is driving.
I'm a tax accountant for a design house, though it's in New Jersey, so no glamour on this end.
From what I've read, the MINI is being marketed to 3 different demographics: young hatch buyers, 30-40 year olds who want something practical and fun, and old farts who remember the Mini's good old days. I'll leave it to each of you to determine where you fit in.
Guess I'm the oldest fart to respond to this post so far. I hope to have my Cooper S by the time my 55th birthday rolls around in September of 2002. My 1967 Austin Cooper S was stolen in August of 1972. I've been driving a 1973 BMW 2002 tii ever since then. Hope the engine and clutch last til then!
Oh, would BMW love to get that data! I'm 35, working as a system admin, have two 2 kids, 1 wife and wore out 3 1/2 Minis (a 1100 Special beeing the oldest) so far. I hope to get my Cooper S two months after my 36th birthday. Currently I drive a Checkmate which never lost one drop of oil in it's whole life (honestly!).
I'm 22 years old, college student studying computer science. I have done an 8 month internship with IBM and will be heading back there this summer for 3 1/2 months. Next fall I'll goto college parttime and work for IBM parttime. I graduate next December and will start full time then. I do web design as a hobby and along with Paul Mullett run the mini2.com and mini-online.co.uk websites. I'm a big new and classic mini nut and this december hope to start work on a classic mini built up from near ground. Alot of carbon fiber, no rear seat, full rollcage, fiberglass shelled seats, 4 or 5 point harnesses, and a vtec 1.6 b16a under the hood. Plan to have it around 160-200hp and should be able to do 0-60 in under 5 when I'm done. Hoping to get my gf interested in the new mini and have her buy one of those as I'll prolly be swamped with paying off the classic mini. That way I can essentially have one of each
I"m sorry....I'n the oldest fart here (58) and I'm a woman who once owned a 1967 Austin Cooper S. ( The only car I ever loved). I'm starting another business so I can buy a new Cooper S without guilt. Lisa
I'm 35, married with a 2.5 year old daughter. I'm a Lotus Notes/Domino Developer. I've had many strange cars and the new MINI is exactly what I have been looking for. A new car with modern amenities but with a real history and definite personality (and a bad attitude at times!)
