Awhile back the MINI USA site was running a color poll on the 14 colors to be offered. One of the colors, Tazmania Orange, was running third in popularity behind BRG and Cloud 9 Blue, and just ahead of Gotcha Red. If you check out the site today, there are only 13 colors with orange missing.

Almost 30 years ago, when Alpina was making performance goodies for BMW '02s, black and orange was a favorite color combination for their modified '02s. Could it be that Alpina has requested BMW to let them use orange exclusively for their 200 hp version of the MINI Cooper S? :?

Interesting, but has Alpina comfirmed that they will do a version of the COOPER S?

I have not heard anything for sure about the Alpina MINI.

I have been told as a 'reliable rumor' that John Cooper Garages are getting about 135 bhp out of the standard Cooper with a bit of tuning (probably to sell as an aftermarket addition). They are also getting over 200bhp from the Supercharged 'S'.

Nothing has been confirmed yet but the quote about Alpina also appeared in Autocar on 18/04/01

The Cooper Garages haven't sent me any informations though I requested them some time ago, but maybe somebody here knows what the conditions are for the Cooper S tuning. Do they need a brand new car (yes, this sound a bit like a joke with the specs not even out) or will a slightly used one also suffice (at least I had to get to the UK in it)? Do they intend to replace the motor or are they just enhancing it? Are there certain accessories neccessary (DCS, traction control, etc.) to get it done?
Any knowledge would be appreciated. :P

I read that the Alpina version will have a longer stroke (giving almost 1.8l), increased blower pressure (different size pulley for supercharger?) and a freer flowing exhaust system. Cooper Garages will probably be doing similar mods. Maybe some of their performance goodies will be available as "bolt-on" kits.

DSC and traction control will be an option on the MINI Cooper (not sure about the 'S') and effect handling, but not horsepower or torque. Hopefully, this system will have an on/off switch so it can be disabled for "fun" driving.
