I know this may sound trite, but I am used to resting my shifting elbow on an armrest.

Nothing wrong with creature comforts Jakx, although, when you're used to a classic mini like me, then windscreen wipers with 3 speeds are a luxury!

The armrest is not something I have heard on offer.

Even two speeds are a luxury! Classic Minis of the Mk. I vintage ('59-'67) make use of a single speed wiper that doesn't even park automatically - the driver must reach over on the dashboard (no stalk switch) and try to time when to turn it off or else the blades are stopped in the driver's line of sight. :?

And to think the MINI has an available rain-sensing wiper feature.

And what about the interior door handles - you don't have to use a piece of cord! You've never had it so good.

I must admit I was wondering the same thing about the armrest (I first saw the Mini at the Paris Auto Show and was blown away--great car, oh and by the way this is my first email to this site--Pretty Cool site!). Just about every car that I have ever owned has had an armrest so I'm quite sure that I'll be looking for that option also.

I`m sorry, I really am sorry but it HAS to be said - what is it about you y**ks and your bleeding armrests?

I mean, we know America is extremely large, lots of us have roamed there, but if your right arm gets tired on an extremely long and arduous journey you should really pull over and rest it a little!

Gor` blimey, who wants a central armrest on a MINI, Paul talks about wanting creature comforts, and yes, I agree - to a point!
Issigonis reckoned better not to be too comfortable - keeps you alert!!

How about asking BMW to offer a handbag hook on the dash, or perhaps a nice insulated tartan pipe nook in the console - on the Cooper S?

As I said, sorry folks, but I`m going to click `send` now before I change my mind here . . .

I'm sorry but I'm not going to lay awake at night wondering if there is going to be an optional armrest. If you're not using your right arm for shifting then you should have both hands on the wheel.

At least there is an armrest in the door and not a piece of cording or a simple door pull. That alone makes me happy. Thank goodness BMW knew where to stop with this retro thing

One of the best creature comforts, ever, in any car, has to be the 'curry hook' on the Landrover Discovery.

For those not in the know, there is a hook, similar to a jacket hook you sometimes get above rear car door windows, positioned below the dash on the passenger side. This allows you to hang your curry or chinese meal in the bag, without it falling over, and all the sauce spreading itself in your footwell.

Fantastic.

Yes us "Yanks" like our armrest, sorry that it's such a problem for most of you but since this car is being sold globally it makes sense (well to me anyway) to equip the vehicle to the likes or specifications of the country that you're selling them in.

I like the curry hook idea. Never had one, but spilled plenty of pickup orders on the floor boards. Wish they put those on more vehicles.
I don't know if I care one way or the other about an arm rest. I have only ever had one car with an arm rest, and it didn't get used much. If it doesn't come as an option, you can always stack some pillows between the seats?

Hey...armrests for us Americans because we're overweight and out of shape...and those complained about small rear view mirrors for the Brits so they can't see their bad teeth!

8-)

Actually the armrest is a place for Fefe our Boston Terrior to rest her head on those long drives to the Club. That is I mean to say, while we are not towing the Mini behind our 44 foot Motor Lodge.

A handbag hook is obviously not the same as a curry hook, because they`re different from one another - in that one is for hanging a handbag from and the other is for dropping a curry from!

Call me reactionary but THEY BOTH HAVE NO PLACE IN THE MIN options list, and, if you must have a shifter (a what?) ARMREST go buy one and rivet it or weld it on somewhere well out of sight - preferably in America!

Thank you!

Ok! Ok! I could care less about the armrest! The new Acura RSX will not have one ether. There I feel better... The problem is it's the wife!! She (thinks she needs) one. And the automatic too.... Somebody smack me quick!! No Cooper -S! My life, it's ruined... But if you have any suggestions on how to convince the Misses about the six speed ... who needs an armrest!! 8D

are these armrests only on american cars? none of my cars have ever had them and i can't recall ever seeing them on any other cars. if i remember from driving school some years ago there was a saying about keeping your arms at "10 and 2" - how are you expected to do that when your arms are resting at aproximately "5 and 8"? Seems pretty silly to me.

But.. to address the six speed issues - i've resisted manual transmission for ages and am now tirelessly stalling my future husbands gti vr6 on the hills of san francisco in preparation for my future silver Mini Cooper S. My guess is that once she sees it in person she'll come around to the 6 speed.

speaking of the gti vr6 i like to think my Cooper S will beat his car - what do you guys thinK?

A tangential note to this discussion - seems I'm one of the very few women in this forum. I would have thought this car would have a lot of "chic" appeal not unlike the VW Beetle. Or is it not interest in the car that is lacking but perhaps interest in the torque figures and tire specifications?

Excuse me MiniMe, but you don`t by any chance have an A4 sticker in your ve-hi-cle window do you? Has it been there long?

No matter . . . just wondered, you did say 44 foot?

And your dog is called Fefe and not Fifi . . yeah?

Ok! B)

Excuse me lady!

I`ve had a good look around this forum - what makes you think someone like `DiamondGeezer` might not be a girl, or `sweeny` even?
