| Badger Badger Badger | I think it really depends on who you get. Some might just say change it, some may fine you and if they get really arsey then it may be 3 points. I'm not 100% on this but i think its about right. From what you are planning to do 3 points is incredibly extreme, some of the stuff i've seen driving about is illegible where as yours should be pretty obvious what it really is. Also depends where you go to get them made they might not make them, you need about 5 forms of ID, however go to a show and they dont ask questions just, make your plates and often make them much better that places such as Halfords will... MINI not coming now so i'm going racing instead |

Offline | The law states that, You must not alter, rearrange or misrepresent the letters or numbers Characters must not be moved from one group to the other (e.g. A242 ABC must not be displayed as A242A BC). Offences may result in any or all of the following: A fine of up to £1,000 The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test Full details of the requirements are included in The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 I pasted that from the DVLA website. ![]() Hacked the IBUS | Fine is upto £1000 and the Plate can be revoked from yourself- Also I would not reckomend carrying a set of Road Legal Plates in your car as if you say this to the Constabulary he/she will then say in reply- "Oh so you knew they were illegal-as you have the road legal set in the boot of your Car" Also i'm pretty sure that Registration Marks are to be Securely Fastened to the car-i.e Screwed on-That is the law-but alot of Garages/Dealers sometimes Stick the Plates on Instead of Screwing them on. |

| Grinny's the Mini 4 me! | My 'creatively spaced' plates are on the car, only for photo shoots... Sometimes, being human, I forget to remove the 'creatively spaced' plates.. My normally spaced plates are in the boot, with a spare set of fixers. I believe that if i were to forget about my plates, and get pulled over, that my willingness to stick the regular plates on straight away would buy me some good will... As for not having real ones in the boot because it proves that you knew that they were illegal, I have two points: 1. Ignorance is no defence in the eyes of the law. 2. Your 'creatively spaced' number plate provider should do the following before he issues your plates. They are supposed to see vehicle documents, your driving licence or other I.D, and then they are only allowed to issue the plates if you sign a statement saying you are buying the plates as 'show plates', and that you will not have them on the car on a public road. They will want to put their garage name on the bottom of the plates, so that the officer can get in touch with the garage to see if you have signed such a declaration. If you could get them to leave no trace of their garage/shop identity, it could come in useful. Where i live, so many cars have their plates spaced in such blatantly changed formats, that my plate hopefully should be the last on their list. hope this helps.. ![]() Ian M Grinny the mini - Trippin the light fantastic! |

| my ponies have escaped!!! | I have had a taste of this myself. I bought X80 RGX last year for £499 which is naff all. I did have it spaced to read X 80RG X I was driving happily along and saw a fair few police pulling certain people over. They pulled me. They were doing TAX checks and the computer could not read my plate so they just advised me to change it. They did warn that the DVLA could take the plate back - seriously though how likely is this??????? I have or did not mess with the font at all simply spaced out slightly different. I have previously on a different plate been asked to go to an MOT centre to get their slip stamped to prove legal plates were now on it - a little inconvenience i guess but no fine. How many stops do you get before you are in serious trouble???? Yet again another tax on the motorist! m o n k e y : n u t s |

Offline | I still think the Americans have the right term to describe these plates: "Vanity Plates"... BTW...Jason - your Union Flag in your signature is upside down, which is an internationally recognised distress signal - are you trying to tell us something?? ![]() "Do try to keep up Nigel!" |
