Offline | What'll be Worth More in 10 Years.......??? Let's says we're 10 years down the line with our MINIs........which do you reckon will be worth more.......a MkI MINI (as in 2001 - 2004) or a MkII (as in 2005MY onwards). IMHO I suspect the MkI...........as the MkII is a "freshen-up" of the original........therefore the original will more sought after, as it's the original, so to speak......no offence to '05 owners I hasten to add ![]() I'm sure this has happened to a few cars.....the Lotus Elise for example.......... |

| Comes and Goes | yeah you are right mk1 are always worth more to a collector. The more rare the better. i.e uncommon colour or combination will be worth more. i.e gold. if someone had a gold with teh aero kit then this seems very collectable for the future. this is because its very uncommon. things like the S spoiler on a cooper will be over looked in my opinion. you have to remember that mk1 01 have changed in the 3 years but only minor changes. this could be seen as important too. all is important. i become very interested in the 1970's bike the Chopper... i found out what collectors look for and rare colours are very important. doesnt have to be the best colour, teh fact its rare will make it seem even better. MK2 will not have teh same value. teh mk2 gets only 50% of the mk1 choppers. could this be a guide? |

Offline | Is it accurate to split out 2001-2004 as Mk1? MY2005 is a small styling evolution on the existing chassis, not a new car as the MY2007 chassis and motors will be (Mk2). The entire car, many many components, has seen adjustment during this original run. And, many of these changes that were cut in to production have made it onto the sold cars as part of the warranty process (software is the easiest example). '02 MINI Cooper CVT (prod. date: 6/12/2002; Indi Blue/Black roof, R-81 7-hole 15x5.5" or NZO 16x6.5") '67 Austin Cooper S 1275 Mk1 (build date: 6/26/1967; Tartan Red/Black Roof, Minilite 10x4.5" or 10x6.0") |

Offline | doubt we'll see satellite speed limiters - where'd their income come from? if anyting speeds would be limited to 65 on a 55 road, so there would still be some room for ticketing. perhaps since the car now knows the speed limit and whether you're breaking it, there's be a ticket dispenser built right into the dash. hey this was wildly off topic wasn't it. to get back on topic, i somehow doubt we'll see the mkI being (much) more valuable ten years from now. sure we see it for the classics, but those cars still run... to me, a modern car is a different animal. cooper s '05 x brg/white/chrome, cordoba/anthracite/chrome, flik wasp 17x7 x delivered july 26th 2005 cooper '02 replaced x brg/white, R83 white, chrome, cordoba x built june 21st, arrived july 15th on the traviata, delivered july 26th 2002 |

Offline | I'd agree with nonsequitur that there aren't enough differences to call the '05 a Mk2. The MX-5 had years of touch-ups, and even an engine change (in the colonies), but the Mk2 (or NB) designation wasn't made until the '99 body changes. That said, with the number of MINIs produced, like the MX-5, in ten years the newest one will be more valuable. In thirty years *maybe* the older, but doubtful. |

Offline | TBH they're so common now I doubt the Mk1 will be worth more then the Mk2. There's so many to chose from now I'm sure if somebody wants a Mk1 or Mk2 they'll be able to find one easily. Rarity could dictate a premium, for example a Mk1 Cooper Works. MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime ![]() ![]() Unofficial MINI2.com bean counter |

Offline | At least in the US, I don't see within 10 years anything changing much. An '02 will be 13 years old, and '05 will be 10. They're not collector items at 10 years old, they're just old, so you'd get more money for the newer car. Similar logic to Miatas (mx-5s) , which were quite popular when they arrive in the early 90s. They haven't become collectable, especially since the newest models are still made, and Mazda didn't 'screw up' the design, just subtily evolved it, (in my view similar to what MINI has done for the '05s) Right, the point. The older then Miata, the less its worth, because its just down to the same things for any car, age, condition and milage. Check back in 25 years or more when MINIs are classics, and we'll see, but until then, its not a big deal. And as far as in 25 years, I suspect there will be the 'cool' versions, like however many HP they finally decide to put in a JCW, so that might be the most sought after one, regardless of what year or Mk it is. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |
