"Follow me home Lights"

I was wanting to activate the "Follow me home lights"... when you lock your car the lights stay on for a set period of time, blah, blah... cause my car doesnt have it, and it would be handy.

I looked through the FAQ's and I couldnt seem to find the instructions on how to do it.

I was wondering if it is something that you can do... or does your dealer have to do it for you?

I was also after instructions on removing the tail lights and high mount stop light to put clear ones in... I used the search FAQ function and only got vague answers...

Could someone send me in the right direction!!

Thanks in advance!!

Todd

On mine you just activate it as you would your main beam (Pull the light stalk towards you). If the key is out of the ignition then the headlights come on instead and go off after 40 secs or so.

I don't think there's an option to do it on lock.

hey todd, they'll already be activated - they are on mine. once you've turned everything off just pull the stalk towards you like you're flashing your lights and they'll turn on.

Really I thought you left the lights on switch off the ignition then turn off the lights.?
Then walk away looking over your shoulder making sure they go off.

The older cars had it, my 03 model year Cooper had the old settings where they stayed in automatically. My 04 Model year Coop has the new ones you have to turn on using the stalk for main beam, it just depends on what age your car is

It can be programmed. My car is a June 2002 build, and it has it. Lights on, turn off car, remove key, turn off headlights, exit car, lights stay on. When they are programming it, you can specify how long you want them to stay on, i.e. 30 sec, 60 sec, 90 sec...

Just about every MINI ever made has this option available, with different time limits. There's very few MINIs which cant have it, and I've no idea why not. Most can, and most dealers will do it. Some (still, sadly) just cant be bothered to even look, let alone change settings.

On cars build before Sept '03 it's a case of leaving the lights on, car off, lights off..... it's activated. Easy.

Cars after that date it's lights off, car off, flash lights.... it's activated. Not quite so easy.

If it doesn't work, many dealers will switch this option on for your FOC at service time/when in for warranty work. Some will charge for this to be done. Their privilage really.

Sorted!!

Thanks guys!! I knew the lights came on when I switched the stalk on... but always turned them off before they turn themselves off...

I have an 1974 BMW 2002, when you leave the indicators on, it lights up the head and tail light on that side of the car... til you turn it off, or until the battery goes flat

I had assumed by switching the headlights on, it did the same thing... My mum has a new Mercedes Benz and when you lock or unlock the car, the interior and exterior lights automatically come on for a set time, then switch off... I has assumed that the "follow me home" lights could be programmed to do the same...

Thanks again!! Most appreciated!!

Todd
