Thumbs down Test Drives

Does your dealer let you take the car out on your own?

I asked to take the Convertible out but my dealer is insisting that he comes with me.

It's all about the individual dealers insurance. Some let you take a car out alone others do not
The original dealer I had used to, but after they had two cars written off and one stolen they stopped that.

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime

Actually on the subject of taking your girlfriend too I took an MR2 out a few years ago with wifey as passenger. The salesman just gave me the keys and a suggested route.

Never had any bother, always been told to take it and bring the car back in x hours. Just out of interest who was it (if you want to name them?)

I believe it's an insurance thing
When they see Mo coming for a test drive the premium goes up

Serious now, my dealer once gave loaners out on there insurance, now they don't. Never seen them let someone test drive a car on their own either

I had a mini cooper demonstrator for 24 hours, obviously the salesperson didn't come with me.All i had to do was to insure the vehicle and supply them with the proof.I think my insurance was £7 extra(i pay by direct debit anyway) for the 24 hours.I didn't buy a cooper but i bought a nicely specced one and i've got an 05 replacement one on order for september.Wasn't thinking of changing but the deal seemed really good and i ain't gonna be payin' much more than i'm paying now, plus i can have all the options that i should have ordered on my first one.

lol......

Well I test-drove both the new Cooper S and the Cooper Convertible today. I was accompanied both times, as again I was told it was insurance reasons. I believe them, as I'm sure if I could have driven the Convertible on my own they'd have let me as the poor sales lady got a bit of buffeting from the wind sitting in the back. I felt sorry for her so I raised the roof halfway through the test drive.

All in all service was excellent. And I’m very tempted to get a Convertible for next year.

I also saw someone reverse into a Cherished Mini - I'm not sure he would have stopped but then he clocked that I had saw him and parked up. He did a fair bit of damage as well.
